In these forums I read people telling someone to install into their console or hook it up using the ck3 and molex power. On the items website they give this info:
The 0800 Release is a firmware replacement for the BenQ VAD6038 drive to allow you to backup your own games. This is to be installed in your PC so you can rip Xbox 360 games from it. No more trying to find a Kreon drive! This firmware is NOT FOR USE IN A CONSOLE and is provided with the intended use of being in a dedicated "ripping" drive.

I am a little confused about this so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

the 0800 firmware is for ripping tour originals
To expand on what he said, a BenQ drive running 0800 firmware will allow you to rip retail discs so you can back them up.

The USB Pro v2 is able to turn the majority of XBOX 360 DVD-ROM drives into ripping drives without the need for any additional firmware (the Lite-On 1175 and Hitachi 0500/0502 drives are exceptions at the moment since we don't even have any custom firmware for those yet).

I understand the 0800 is for ripping. I am confused about how to install the drive. From what I read, it is said to install it into your pc as a normal drive. But I have read people mentioning problems with via cards. So is it possible to just install it in my pc like a regular drive and windows will recognize it?
I would rather not have it connected beside my pc using the connectivity kits.

I will also add that if you use a laptop, an external MOLEX power supply is a must (required to power the CK3 or USB Pro v2 - 12v is required for eject, obviously you will need to eject to insert you retail discs :)).

Sounds better to use the laptop because I have the molex and ck3 mini, but I would rather use my pc, so do I just plug the drive in and will it be recognized by my pc and ripping software like xbox backup creator or wxripper? I read people having problems reading their retail discs with xbox backup creator, something about their via card.

That's why your best to have the x360 USB to connect your drive a sata card will work but they aren't half as good, before I got my x360 USB I had to install the via drivers for my ripping drive to be recognised but then had to delete them to flash drives. Pain in the ass really

Ok, that is probably the problem other people are talking about because of the via drivers. I'll use the x360 Usb or ck3 to connect, less trouble.
Thank you so much for your time and help.
Have a good day.
