if you have a 1.0 xbox (definable by usb daughterboard and active heatsink) then you must desolder the LPC. To do this hold the board vertical and heat from top with soldering iron while using the desoildering bulb from the bottom. I had never soldered before in my life and I desoldered the entire port perfectly in 3 minutes using this method.

Replacing a DVD Drive

If I don't have the original drive (the one that broke) and I am trying to install a replacement DVD drive can I? Or do I need the firmware off the original DVD drive?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Replacing a DVD Drive

if you don't have the original drive, that xbox will never play games again

you need the key off the original dvd drive

unless you can JTAG the motherboard (requires kernel of 7371 or less), you are out of luck

Re: Replacing a DVD Drive

you can see if its possible to jTag your box by checking the kernel

if that num is higher than 7371 you're prob SOL
