Hello everyone :)

Before I start asking questions I'm gonna see to that you understand my dilemma and why I'm here. About half a year ago I replaced my broken Xbox with a new one that was modded with an Xecuter 3CE chip and since then, everyone has been just swell with no problems what so ever.
That was until yesterday when I managed to get hold of the notorious Steel Battalion - complete with its monsterous controller. The first issue that had to be dealt with was how the game would restart itself after pressing one of the controllers most vital button, meaning I could not begin playing. This was solved by deactivating IGR so now I'm able to get past that screen where I'm supposed to press the button.

Here's my next (and still unsolved) problem: the game freezes when the gauge-screen appears... They only fill up about an inch each and then everything just stops - even the sound (it hangs).

Now, I've read about how some people have managed to get the game running by simply updating or completely replacing the chip's BIOS (both Matrix and EvoX seems to work just fine). Problem is I haven't had any Xbox BIOS-experience in years and years, so I'm clueless about what to do and how to do it... Hence is why I'm here :)

So, would anyone be so kind to try and help me either upgrade or replace my BIOS so that I may get this game up and running. Could I perhaps have more than one BIOS installed and switch between then by simply flicking those switches on the front of my Xbox, or what the heck are they for?

Thank you.

PS. booting my Xbox with the ship turned off does not solve this problem. Game still hangs...

My setup
Xbox v1.6
Xecuter 3CE
BIOS 3294

If you have disabled the chip (the front turns red) and the game STILL doesnt work, then it's not the BIOS or the chip. Is the game disc an original or a backup ?

It's the original game disc (or it wouldn't boot when the chip is turned off, right? :p). I get the same problem trying to run the game off the harddrive (chip turned on, naturally).

Saves cleared, game still hangs.

Perhaps I should try with a couple of other BIOSes as well... I agree with Xecuter3ce though - shouldn't have anything to do with the chip or its BIOS since I can get it to run and it no longer reboots.

Sorry ... brain-dead in work here at the moment!

I still dont see that the BIOS is to blame - I wasnt aware that the BIOS would stop any game working ?? (Please correct me here if someone has had problems!!?)

Check the disc is clean and maybe try deleting and re-copying it to the hard drive - it might even be that the laser on the DVD isnt quite what it should be and has copied the data slightly corrupted.

Well I have heard about how other games have been freezing after ppl updated their BIOS, so it's not impossible.

While waiting for more suggestions I'll try to get someone to take their console to my house and see if there's something wrong with mine. I'll also keep an eye open for any other residents in my town whom might own the game and are willing to lend me their game disc.

Thank you both for trying, you’re great :)

Does your Xbox behave any differently when you have the chip disabled as opposed to enabled? i.e is there a distinct difference between the two.

If you were having IGR issues with this game, then it means you were trying to play it with the chip ON. What happens if you remove the chip completely?

No, nothing. But the gauges wouldn't move at all before I disabled IGR (now they fill up about an inch before everything freezes, as told).

Yeah that problem only occurred when the chip was still turned on (and IGR was enabled).
I don't plan on removing the chip as I have no idea on how to do this and don't really feel like making an attempt...

'cause I get a normal Xbox-logo and no Xecutor-logo along with the "ROX MY BOX" message :)

Sorry about that, I misread your question (thought you asked about the game and not the console).

Update: Today I obtained a (burned) copy the game but it didn't change anything, so the problem most definitaly lies within my Xbox. Gonna try it out on a friend's console sometime next week (or so I hope).

i think i have a related question.

is it possible to use the xenium os?

see, here's the delimna. i have an x3 and i've had it working great. but now my 200GB HD isn't enough so i got a 500GB. i don't have enough space on my 100GB laptop to copy EVERYTHING on my current HD, nor the time to FTP 200 gig of data back and forth.

i was hoping i could use the xenium OS's "drive upgrade wizard" which i sheepishly haven't found a way to do it with the X3 config live.

so basically, i want to know how to fix it so that i can (just once) boot to a bios that will allow me to copy HD to HD without using ftp.

Hello again folks,

I just felt like going through all the threads I made across the Internet and found a new reply on one of the forums where some member had this to say:

"The xecuter bioses never worked with SB. the evox one was the only one that worked."

So perhaps I should load the Evox bios after all and at least give it a try. Only problem is I have no idea of how to proceed with this :)
