First of all, they are fun to do!

Second of all, they become more financially viable when you make trades for people's old PCBs. (keep their failed kamikaze + $, send out one of your replacements)

I mean, it takes me 20 minutes max to swap the IC

I can fix it, easily in fact.

One of two things has happened.

1. You blew a cap and a 0 ohm resistor.

In this case, its a very easy fix. Replace the cap and resistor

2. You blew more stuff further down the line, making it not worth trying to diagnose.

In this case, a MT chip swap to a new PCB would bring it right back. Easy stuff for someone good at lifting chips and soldering.

Very rarely is the MT chip actually fried when you plug in a slim upside-down.
So all the info goes onto the new drive and new pcb and the 360 sees it as the original drive
