Hello, i read hundreds of posts but i can't find a solution for my problem.
At this point a would like to throw my xbox out of the window, i have no
clue what i do wrong. I have a xbox 1.6 (yes i checked the ram) and a
executer 2.6ce modchip. I do a rebuild pcb, because i have a xbox 1.6 and i
connected the lan & hdd wire. I put the mainboard back in the xbox chase
(without the screws) and i tested it. YES, it works, the blue light on the
chip is on, i get a error 13 (dashboard). Then i installed evox and al
works fine. I copied a backup and al works well.

I put on the xbox back together, with screws and mounted the switches (chip en/dis, banks, flash protected) at the front of the xbox. I put on the
power and FRAGS, aagrh. Boot 3 times etc. Then i removed the pcb rebuild
completely, just to check of the soldering was right. And i soldering the
pcb rebuild back on the mainboard. As i sayed to myself, the soldering was
pretty good the second time. I connect my xbox and i get a error code 5.
HDD not locked . Hmmm, i read on your forum, this is not possible, because
a 2.6 modchip must always boot if youre hd is locked or not. But for sure,
i locked my hd in my computer and put it back in my xbox. Now i boot the
xbox, error 6, Cannot unlock HDD. Aargh, i just locked it. I put the hd
back in my pc, unlocked it, and put it back in my xbox. Power on the xbox,
error 5 again. The blue light on the chip is on, means this the chip is
working?? If i boot the xbox with the modchip disabled, i get also the
error 5 code. I also tested the hd i another xbox, YES, it booted with evox
and i can play the backup game that i copied before. The hd is working perfectly in another xbox, but not in mine.

I got stocked, i don't know what i do wrong. I have a backup 2.6 modchip,
that works 100%, i tested it and also i get a error 5. I hope you guys can help me with this problem. I am out of idea's.Sorry for my 'crappy' english, i am not so good in writing it. I hope not my xbox mainboard is fried. It booted once correctly with evox, but didn't after mounted the xbox back together.

Toronto, Canada
leave your hdd unlocked, once you have the flashbios screen up and running you can use that to lock it
be sure to check over your D0 point that it has a solid connection

The do is OK. Can a bad cable between the modchip and the switches produced a error 5 code?

No, the only thing that can cause error 5 is an unlocked hard drive.

But if error 5 means it is a unlocked hd, then the xbox should boot up normally, to the dashboard or if you selected the correct bank to the flashbios. BUT the xbox didn't. I only get error 5, i tried another hd, again error 5. But i also tried the hd in another xbox, it worked correctly. Thus the problem is somewhere in the xbox and not in the hd.

The problem is likely with your switches or your D0 point. The switches may not be making contact, so the LEDs on the switches tell you it is booting from the chip but it really isn't.

BUT, you specifically asked if anything else can cause an error 5, and the answer to that is no.
