[soapbox]Guys, depending on where you are getting your information from, this is often not clear. A lot pf people buy the chip, but don't understand that they need a BIOS to be useful. They read around (a little - just enough to get by ... which is often human nature) and find out how to physically install the mod chip, but nothing about loading the new BIOS.
They do know that they need a dashboard ... and if they hit Evox (probably the most common, and newb friendly dash), they read references to the Evox M8 BIOS.
So, who is at fault here? The people that write the chip install instructions because they stop short of saying "and now you need to load the latest X3 BIOS that can be found at the usual places", the dash install people because they keep it generic and assume that a working chip is up and running (and then mention Evox M8 BIOS files), the reseller that didn't inform the buyer that they need to do more than just solder in the chip (we are going to even more of these queries as solderless installs become more common), or the innocent newb buying the chip and asking these questions - average age somewhere in their teens, ADD, MTV generation, who expect technology to work. Everyone is to blame - but the newb has few options but come here ... and then rather than read the forums or search they open there mouths, get flamed, and then say "youse guy are a bunch of retards - I only needed a simple answer".
We immediately jump down the throat of the people that ask these questions. They have single digit post counts, so we assume they are trolling, or just asking stupid questions ... but the reality is, they logged on here and asked the question because they are having problems, otherwise they would be happier playing on their Xbox rather than sitting in front of a computer reading a stupid forum. Just help them out - point them to the appropriate part of the forum to post, give them the one line answer. Stop being an a**h**e - other modchip forums have enough of those.
But lets look at the problem deeper - there are a lot of places this information SHOULD be distributed, but isn't, or is inadequate. TeamXecuter have an install manual comp on at the moment - I hope that goes along way to addressing the FULL install sequence needed, and not just a physical install of the chip.[/soapbox]
