My setup:
Operating System= Windows 98
Xbox= Version 1.0
Modchip= Xecuter 2.6 Lite Plus
Bios= X2_5028
Bootdisk= EvoX

(I just created my boot disk and inserted it into my DVD tray....The EvoX menu appears)

Ok....I want to connect my PC to my Xbox with just a Crossover Cable. I have a RJ-45 network cable and have placed one end into my Xbox and the other into my PC.
*I have no router or hub on this computer. My internet connection is cable modem connected to my computer by my USB port*

1. So here I go.....I open up the Start menu/ then settings/ then control panel/ then Network. Then I went down to my TCP/IP-> linksys LNE100Tx(v5) Fast Ethernet Adapter (this is where my Xbox is connected to via crossover cable)

2. I highlight this Adapter and then go to properties. Under IP address, I selected Specifiy an IP address. It looks like this.
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
I hit OK and then restarted my computer.

3. Before I burned my Evox, I configured the Evox.ini. It looks like this.

[Network]
SetupNetwork = Yes
StaticIP = Yes
Ip = 192.168.0.3
Subnetmask = 255.255.255.0
Defaultgateway =
DNS1 = 0.0.0.0
DNS2 = 0.0.0.0
[FTP]
Enable = Yes
Password = xbox
IGR = No

4. Then I powered up my Xbox with the EvoX boot Cd. My mod switches are
Mod= On
Flash=On
Bank= 1
Then I went to system utilities/ then settings......my Network info looks like it does above.
5. I opened up FlashFXP and from the menu at top I selected sites/ then site manager/ then new site (at the bottom) I named it MyXbox entered
Ip = 192.168.0.3
Port= 21
User Name= xbox
Passwork= xbox
Hit apply and then Connect

6. I get Connection failed(connection timed out)Is my internet connection interfearing with the connection to my Xbox?

7.Please Help and be Explicit.....I'm a newbie and don't understand anything I'm doing(right or wrong).

8.Sorry for repeating a thread some else had...but if I understood any of the tutorials or other thread I wouldn't have made this one so explicit. Thanks!

I have a cable modem hook up through my USB port. I've installed a brand new ethernet card (LNE100TX). I booted up EvoX on my xbox. I connected by xbox to the PC using a crossover cable. The lights on the card do not light up.
Troubleshooting
After seeing the Line Status was--->NO LINK! on the EvoX dashboard I tried the following.
1. I unplugge the crossover cable from the Xbox and plugged it into my modem. The new ethernet card lit up. (from here I assumed that the NIC was working properly)
2. I then Unplugged the crossover cable from the computer, plugged into the modem and left the other end connected to the Xbox. The Line Status changed from--->NO LINK!<--- to--->100 FULL DUPLEX. (from here I assumed that he Xbox was working properly and the cable was working properly)
3.Then I reconnected the Xbox to the PC. (again no light on my computer's NIC)(and Line Status is--->NO LINK!)
What is the problem?

Ok... if you can connect to your modem with the cable you are using then it is not a cross over cable. It is a straight through cable.

Modems are DCE devices and your Xbox/PC are DTE devices. Like devices need cross over cables... different devices need straight through... you have the wrong cable.

Catalyst...sorry about that. I should of gave you the credit. You had said it wasn't a crossover first. This just goes to show that even GEEK SQUAD can steer you wrong. Damn Circuit City!
