Swapping a VAD6038

Hey

Alright well here's whats goin on. A while ago my 360 DVD drive died it was a 6038. After that I just thought Hey well maybe easier to buy a new 360 (Pro).
Now that one has died also with 3 red Rings. basically what I wanna know is how I can

1. Swap a VAD6038 with a 6038 off ebay
2. Maybe how to fix 3 red rings with error code 0020.

Thanks
Matt

Re: Swapping a VAD6038

you have to transfer the dvdkey from the old drive and put it on the new drive if you want to be able to play games.

if you don't transfer keys then it will only play movies.

the dvdkey is a numeric key that is imbedded in the firmware,
so you have to do a firmware dump to get it.

look up jungleflasher tutorial @ jungleflasher.net and it will have all the info you need

Hey alright thanks.

But what about my 3 red ring 0020 error code?
You should pay someone to do a reflow or better yet, a reball. I've been fixing consoles for a little while now and I know that anything less than a good reflow (using good tools and a tested temperature profile) will result in the RRoD coming back soon. If doing a reflow you should also use a good x-clamp alternative. Xbox-experts.com is a good place to discuss 360 repairs and hardware problems.

If you are buying the same type of drive you can also just swap the drive's PCB, which contains the firmware - no flashing needed.
