Hello,
I'm very sorry for being one of those n00bs who come in and just ask for help, but I litterally have no other option. Here's how it is. TOMOROW afternoon my family and I are leaving for vacation in Jugoslavia, we'll be there for a month and we're basically staying in a desert place waaaay far away from the city. My only source of entertainment would be to play Xbox. I recently just bought one, and my friend who's really good at modding, chipped it and made it work for me. But then I baught a new harddisk, a 160 GB harddisk. He instructed me on how to install it. I plugged the disk into my computer, and ran a program that, I'm guessing, preppared the disk for Xbox use. Then I put it into the Xbox, put in a CD and ran the operative system, but during that a HUGE misshap occured and I accidently erased the bios (That's what my friend told me). So he gave me instructions on what to do, and it was basically this. Open up the Xbox, find the chip and flick a switch on it, then start the Xbox, and when it asks me to put in a CD, I put in a RW CD on which I have burned a bios.bin file plus one other file of any sort that is at least 50mb large. So I burned the bios.bin file and a random ZIP file that was 52mb, onto a RW CD and just before I put the CD in, he told me to flick the switch first. So I did that and I ran the CD, but nothing happened.

My family leaves tomorow afternoon, and I haven't packed a thing. I'm thinking I will need at least tomorow to pack all my stuff so this is a huge rush for my part. I had nowhere elseto go since my friend has no clue either.

Can someone Please, PLEASE! Help me. My vacation will be ruined unless I fix this. I'm sure as fellow gamers you can all understand the pickle I'm in.

Thanks in advance,
Gecko

Point your friend to this website to learn how to install new HDDs!!

Read the tutorials on FlashBIOS and X3 support - there are plenty of them now.

What happens when you boot from the backup BIOS? There's no point in ANYONE talking you through anything until you understand what you're doing.

I have full intent in reading everything, and under diferent surcomstances I definitely would. But right now, I just don't have time to read all that in the tutorial. And it doesn't really help that I'm a slow reader. I'm sorry, and I know it's really lame asking for something like this, but I have no other choice. Since I plan on doing more modifications to my Xbox I will need to read later anyway, and I will. But seeing as I haven't packed one bag, and I'm leaving tomorow, it's really a big problem for me. My vacation will last a whole month, and spending it in a desert village without a good source of entertainment will ruin it. I have been through this 3 years in a row, and each year has been a huge bore.

Ok - set the switches on the X3 to on on off off off.

What happens? Try off on off off off if no go.

You're going to need to try this stuff to see what's on the chip.

Remember, post EXACTLY what happens when you boot.

Hey Martin, from what i've read it sounds to me like he doesnt have an X3. I could be wrong though...

Open up the Xbox, find the chip and flick a switch on it, then start the Xbox, and when it asks me to put in a CD, I put in a RW CD
just before I put the CD in, he told me to flick the switch first

My understanding, flick the switch and boot up = Bank 2 on his chip has flashbios
Flick the switch back before flashing = flash it to the 1st bank so as not to overwrite flashbios.

Could be an older Xecuter Chip, and if that's the case, no backup!! DOH

i seem to be having somewhat the same problem....i'm working on my brothers xbox (x3, pin-header, v1.6) Yesterday i tried to flash the 1.6 plus bios to it via http and it said it had trouble erasing...or something to that extent...my problem is it will not load the flash bios screen now.....and it wont stop fragging....so i was wondering if it could be that a connection somehow got loose or could it be something else.....?

Yea I caught that too, I had to re-read it though after this part "open up the Xbox, find the chip and flick a switch on it" So I said to myself "flick what switch the Protect switch naw...this aint a X3 I said again to myself" Dude got duped. Its probably one of those Sunday Chips

I took this to mean the write enable/protect switch on the X3 itself...

Try booting from either bank 4 256k or bank 8 256k.

If you can still boot FlashBIOS, then make a note of which one it is and make sure you don't try to overwrite it.
