I have a xecuter 2.6 ce i think cause the bios is already on them and a xbox thats in the range of 1.0 to 1.5.

okay i downloaded the bios i need for my xecuter. People were telling me the bios i should use is x2 4893. Well i downloaded from mirc then into fxp. know when i transfered the files for the bios there was to versions x2-4893.06_256k and x2-4893.67_256k. i used the first bios which was x2-24893.06_256k. i extracted the file so i could flash it one the mod chip. I did and it was showing the bios was being saved on the mod chip. after it completed saving on the chip it turned off. I turned it back on and i didnt see anything on the screen but the light was flashing red and green which i believe means i screwed up need help putting the correct bios on chip.

Try switching to the other bank and see if you still have the flashbios in it, if not you need a programmer or try a hotswap with a modded box. If you're in luck and could access the flashbios on the next bank, try dowloading x2_5035...after unpacking it, flash x2_5035_old.

The reason you are having the problem is because you flashed with a 256k bios. Whoever told you to use 4893 was wrong. Take islander's advice and use 5035, it is already 512k.

FlashBIOS 3.0.1 has HTTP flashing, so once you obtain the X2CL 5035 (as has been recommended) you should have no issues flashing your chip. Boot FlashBIOS, select HTTP flashing, plug your Xbox's IP address into a browser on your computer and then upload the BIOS. I still haven't had the need to do this, the last time I had to use FlashBIOS well predates the HTTP flashing.

Also, what do you currently have in your box for a HDD? Do you still have the stock or has it been replaced? Do you know the size and how your partitions were set up? Depending on this configuration you may need to edit the 5035 BIOS LBA48 setting before it will recognize your whole HDD. If you have the stock HDD or replaced the HDD and only have the added F drive there is a good chance you don't need to do anything with the BIOS. If you have the wrong setting it won't damage your box, you just won't be able to see all your data.

Be sure to select the right bin file for your xbox from the 5035 archive. One is for 1.0-1.5 xboxes, the other for 1.6+ units. The file names tell which is which.

I know people have told me which bios i exactly need but i just want to make sure so i dont screw it up

i downloaded x2.5035 i opened the file with win archiver and there were two bios programs which were x2_5035_v16plus_512.bin or x2_5035_vold_512.bin

two poeple have already told me to use number 2 or x2_5025vold_512.bin whick is probably the correct one but i just want to be absolutely sure

i will be flashing it on the bios 3.0.3 if that matters

also when i opened the x2.5035 it looked like this
USE.THE.X2CONFIG.FILE.IN.THIS
lba48.txt
README1ST.TXT
X2_5035_V16PLUS_512.BIN
X2_5035_vold_512.bin
x2config.ini

do i need anything else like the sub directory file or the config.ini

thanks for the help:eek:

If you are sure that you have an Xbox that is version 1.0 to 1.5 then yes, the "old" bios is the right one for you. You'll want to drop the x2config.ini on at the root of your E or F drive once you have it configured as desired. Check out the X2CL forum for details on applications to configure this file. Right now I think the only one that is 100% compatible with v5035 is X2 Config Maker.

It is starting to sound like this is a fresh install. Have you ever run your Xbox modded?

If you you boot with your modchip disabled AND your HDD is properly locked to your motherboard AND you haven't messed around with the stock MS files then yes you should be able to boot the MS dashboard as a stock Xbox without issue. With your mod running you can still boot to or otherwise run the MS dash, which is necessary for some configuration at times. (video, time/date, etc.) I read your question as "can I still use my box like it was?"

The X2 BIOSes have been programmed for some time to block access to Xbox live. The reason for this is that MS will detect the mod and ban your box. So long as you can still boot with the mod disabled you can then still use Xbox Live. Obviously you won't be able to use games stored on your HDD or backup discs while doing this.

Even though you will be booting from bank 2 (flashbios 3.03) you will be flashing bank 1. That is how flashbios works. It always flashes the first 512k to bank 1.

Since your Xbox has not yet been modded you shouldn't need to worry about the config in the BIOS or x2config.ini just yet. The default LBA48 setting for the BIOS will work fine with the stock HDD, and if you add a larger HDD later it will give all the extra available space to drive F.

Later on you can use the config maker (X2CM) to edit the x2config.ini file and then copy the ini file to your Xbox. Again, it needs to go on the root of either E or F. This file controls a number of different options, mainly the colors used in the boot sequence and what dashboard gets loaded.

Full name of "X2CL" is Xecuter 2 Config Live. While this is not the same config live as on the X3 BIOS (BTW, don't even think about flashing the X3 BIOS to your x2 chip. Very bad things will happen.) where the options can all be accessed and edited at boot through a menu in the BIOS, it does allow you to change settings by simply editing the contents of that ini. In the past if you wanted to change a boot color, dashboard, etc. you would need to edit the BIOS itself with a hex editor or utility, then flash the BIOS again... a procedure that caused headaches of bad flashes for many. Welcome to the easiest generation of X2 BIOSes. Any easier and the damn thing would flash itself for you.

You should be fine to flash this BIOS without any changes. You also won't be able to load the ini file on the HDD until you get the BIOS flashed and run some sort of app that provides an FTP server. That will be the next group of steps after getting the BIOS successfully flashed. Running unsigned code from a boot disc and installing apps on your box. Sort of like starting a new chapter I guess.

Like Big_Whoopin' said...first things first, flash the bios and then everything else follows. Since you can't FTP after flashing the bios, you will need softwares like Qwix, Nero, and Dashboard files and of course a good cd-rw/dvd-r (memorex cd-rw works fine with me). Still a long way to go, just take one step at a time, and do yourself a favor...do not do anything that's you're not sure of, read and ask first...:)

In case you're not sure how to put a Dashboard using DVD-R try this:

"How to get your dash files to the xbox without FTP?"

The first thing you need is Qwix and cd burning software (i use Nero)

this is how to build a do it yourself autoinstaller and bypass FTP

Download the Unleashx dash and any other dashes you require.

create a folder on ur pc, I called mine "AUTOINSTALLER". put the Unleashx "default.xbe" (the dash file has to be default.xbe to boot from DVD disk, unless you edit the bios first) and "config.xml" files inside. Now create a sub folder and call it "DASHES".
inside this folder put the dashboard files of any other dashes you want to load to the xbox HDD. so for instance my folder structure on my pc is as follows

C:\AUTOINSTALLER has the following files, default.xbe and config.xml
C:\AUTOINSTALLER\DASHES has the following files, Unleashx.xbe and config.xml and evoxdash.xbe and evox.ini

Open Qwix and click the create ISO button. Click the "Local Folder" option and browse to C:\AUTOINSTALLER

create the iso, it will ask for a path to save the ISO file to.
Burn to dvd-r, put the disk in the dvd drive and boot ur hacked bios. The unleashx dash should appear. use the built in file manager to copy the dash files from D:\AUTOINSTALLER\DASHES to the root of the C drive. The built in file manager has a split screen window. Bear in mind that files selected in the right hand window are copied to the left hand window(ensure you set ur paths first)

reboot and take the dvd out of the drive...

Hope this helps! :)

I keep forgetting that you really don't need to use FTP to get the first files on there... I just keep reverting back to the method I had first used.

But, the one thing that you can do with a bootable FTP disc is that you can copy the still 100% stock Xbox data and back it up on your computer. I know I've rolled back into the backups I created at least once. If you go and copy dashes, etc. first you don't have that backup. And if you somehow manage to overwrite or delete a critical MS file and you don't have a backup...

So while islander has a good suggestion (and decent high-level overview directions too) I still prefer to get in there and backup the data first. To each their own. :D

Another minor preference diff is that I like to keep my mitts off the C drive. Now that I've upgraded my HDD and have an F drive to play with I don't have anything but the original MS stuff on the "stock" partitions. Even E. I just let it sit. 4 unused gig isn't that big a deal when you've got 160 gig total. Now is there any real reason that I have to do this? Not that I've found. I just like the logical separation that C and E are Microsoft's stuff and F is my playground.

I totally agree with Big_Whoopin's idea of backing-up your C: & E: files before doing anything on your stock drive. Unless you're planning of upgrading your HDD, you have no choice but use C: or E: partitions for your Apps.

If you can get hold of Slayer's Evox Auto-installer 2.6, it has everything that you need in it, it's very handy for starters...it's still wise to back-up your files before running slayer's, just in case something goes wrong. :)

No, you don't have to take the hard drive out to back it up. You need a crossover cable to connect your xbox to your PC and an FTP software for transfering your files, I'm personally using FlashFXP...

Take your stock drive off, boot from Slayer's Autoinstaller and choose the upgrade drive option. Some drives are not lockable though, so you have to check if you can lock your replacement drive if you want to play xbox live.

Man, starting to feel like Islander's sidekick here... Should team up and do sports commentary or something. :D

If you don't have a crossover cable but do have some sort of home network set up with a router (becoming more and more common these days) you can connect your Xbox there and then FTP to it from a PC on the network. Within Slayer's (actually the EvoX dashboard IIRC) there should be an area where it will tell you the IP address of your Xbox. You can enable DHCP on the Xbox, let it pick up an IP from the router and you will probably have no issue connecting with another PC on the network.

You can also use a single hub and two standard network cables to connect the Xbox to a PC. I think you'll need to assign static IPs tho. Likewise I think you'll need to do statics with a crossover as well.

For the HDD locking compatibility Islander mentioned, you can look up HDDs at this site - http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/

i was reading exactly how to ftp and its telling me i have to already load the slayer dash (custom to back my files up)

i am scared because slayer sight said to back the files up not sure before you load slayer or after and also i wanted mircrosoft dash intact so i can play xbox live

if i did do the slayer dash doesnt it overwrite the ms dash im not sure.
