Ok this has been going on for about a month. Sometimes when I boot up my computer it will get to the first windows xp screen with the little blue scrolling bar, it will do this for about 20 seconds then reboot. Now the first time this happened I had just reinstalled windows, and now it happens from time to time. I have reinstalled windows twice since so far, but I'm starting to think it's not windows. One idea I have is over heating my CPU is 46 C booting while my case is only 25 C I know thats not very hot though. Also most times I just open up the side of the case and let it run and after about 3 times of rebooting it finally boots. IDK whats happening plz help.

Try unplugging everything from the PC except keyboard/mouse/vga/power(obviously!). Boot like this in case there's an external hardware issue.

If it's still doing it, then it maybe the RAM - have you upgraded it recently, or been in the BIOS setup?

Check the update log for the BIOS if you get an updated version. Don't assume that it's purely BIOS related, as if the system was working fine prior to a RAM upgrade say, then the solution is RAM related. Try resetting the default in your BIOS, in case the RAM timings are wrong or set too high.

Have you considered the possibility that your hard drive might be dying? Sporadic booting problems, crashes, etc can be preliminary indications of this, especially if you haven't done any upgrading recently. You might want to consider running an HDD diagnostic program. Most hard drive manufacturers have them for download off their sites and you can find others through Google if your supplier didn't provide a diagnostic disc.

Nope, HDD passes with flying colors.
passes what? Highschool? Drivers Ed?

I say bad RAM stick... The first part of RAM is Random.... which means... random.

If you have a bad sector and hit it randomly it will make a random error like that.

Pull put all the RAM except one stick and see what happens...

You prolly have 2 512's...

Good luck
