I want the X3, but...

I'm a noob when it comes to modding the XBox. I've modded my PS2 and have no fear of soldering, taking apart, whatever. What I'm wondering is if the X3 is more than I need. I just want to make backups to play. I don't watch DVD's with my XB, and I'm not into making homebrew, so do I really need the X3? I love all the bells and whistles, like the LCD and the switch, but I don't know what I'd use most of the capabilities of the X3 for and for someone who only wants to play backups, is it overkill? Now matter what, I'll buy a Xecuter chip, but do I need this one?
Thanks

the xecuter 2.6 would do the job though you like many may find that you want to do other things after a while in which case you will need a x3

i think that you should get the x3 cause it is the best! who knows, you might one day decide to use the ALL the functions of the X3. Besides with configlive, this makes your life easy!

I'd have to agree with this.

The 2.6 will do fine for just playing backups.

The dvd playback would be a software package, so you could still do that with the 2.6.

However, if you later decide you want to do more, you would have to sell the 2.6 and buy the x3.

It's really a matter of what you intend to do. Do some research on the features of each, and make your decision based on that.

is there a configlive for the 2.6? this feature alone -- and the backup flashrom makes the x3 worth every penny.
The config live is only available on the x3, but as I said, it depends on what you want to do.

Not everyone wants a modchip for the 'coolness' factor. (Although who, I'm not quite sure :))

I would say the backup does make the chip stand out, but some people will get the bios loaded on to their chip and never touch it again after that. Those people would do well to save some money, and go the 2.6 route.

I love my 2.3b and use it all the time but the x3 is awsome epecially when you are flashing, backup bio's is awsome. flashing bio's with http is soo much easier then making a bio's disk, being able to change where you load your dash is really cool. The features it has are well worth the few extra bucks.

I bought the x3, and it is a wonderful chip. I've had it three days and I'm really starting to scratch the surface of the capabilities it possesses. I'd say splurge on it, and then see what happens. The extra $15 or whatever now will likely be worth it if you at any point:

screw up multiple cd-rw's
want to use x3's features
majorly screw up initial flash and don't know what to do
etc.

just my two cents.

Why not spend a little extra to get the latest and greatest. What's gonna happen is your gonna save money by getting the 2.6 but loose out on features. Then you are gonna wanna get the X3, you'll have to uninstall X2 and install X3. SAVE THE HASSLE!!!!!!! GO X3!

Getting around the Xbox 360 Updates...?

I have a Jtagged xbox that plays all region burns. However the newer games that come out all ask if I want to update to the newest version, but only if the harddrive is attached. Without the harddrive the games play fine, but I cant save anything.

Note: This is not an online xbox, I have another one for that. This xbox is used to play JPN shooters and a couple of other games that I play locally.

So I have a couple of questions:

1. Is there any way to get around the update or even remove the updates all together?

2. If I apply the update, will it screw with my Jtagged xbox/firmware softmod (as in take my ability away to play JPN region titles/burned games)

3. If I have to apply the update, is there a modified update to apply that wont screw my current config and get rid of notices.

Thanks for the help.

Are you talking about the Dashboard update? or specific game updates?
