Well, I know on the link you put on here, it said that they noticed a difference in speed. However, it technically shouldn't make a difference. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but am I correct in saying that the ATA interface on the mobo is only an ATA33? Plus, I've also heard from other people that the upgraded cable does not make a difference. But hey, I guess I would upgrade mine if I could just simply for the sake of being able to upgrade it, even if it made no difference. Bragging rights. :)

I did try this, using an 80 wire cable (vs 40) and it immediately began fragging. But Martin told me that it doesn't matter, and that an 80 pin cable should work. So, in my experience, it didn't work, but for lots of other people, it has. Wish I could truly answer your questions.

LoL, well in the time it took me to write the above novel, the thread answered itself. Looks like I was wrong, it does make a difference! I'll have to get ahold of one of them cables now...

Sincerly by the guy who just got 0\/\/n3|)! :(

nut sak, it was a partial answer.

I found some ATA/66 80 pin cables in the basement... they dont appear to have the split wires. I might give it a go.

some say it does make a difference and some say not enough of a difference to notice. good luck and post your results!

Here We Go. I spent the last too long to get this, but I'll share them.

I searched for cables in my basement and found 2 promising 80 pin cables to replace the stock 40 pin.

Tests were done in a Xbox 1.0 with an Xecuter 2.3bPro

Cable 1 = HUNG FU AWM 2678
Cable 2 = LIAN YU AWM 2678

Both appear to be ATA/100 when searhing on the net.

Here's the times I gathered. I ran 3 test for each of the level loads, and only 1 test for the Hard drive game copy (copied Halo folder from F: to G: ). Times are rounded to the nearest 1/2 second.

ACTION Original Cable 1 Cable 2
Halo Copy 7:21 7:23 7:22
Halo Del- 0:08 0:08 0:08

Load Halo
LVL2 15.0 15.5 15.5
LVL3 17.0 17.5 17.5
LVL4 16.5 16.0 16.0

Load Halo2
LVL2 08.5 09.0 08.5
LVL3 19.0 22.0 20.5
LVL4 16.5 15.5 13.0

End result. It was a waste of time. As someone mentioned earlier, the motherboard controller is probably an ATA/33 controller. There were no gains or losses across the board. If anyone has a success story, I'd be happy to hear about it though. This is just my test with a stop-watch.
