I was wondering how necessary an IHAS drive is for burning backups? I'm aware that its necessary for online games, but is it for offline games? If i wanted to play a backup of one of my games that is only single player, would i be safe just burning the game using a typical DVD drive and playing without and internet connection and making sure its not in my console while connected to the internet?

Authorisation checks are inbuilt on all new games released in the new format. If these checks are on the part of the disc not accessible to normal dvd burners then you will get unauthorised disc errors while playing. I believe this will happen more and more. An IHAS burner is less than the cost of a spindle of verbatims so just buy one. Please use the search button as well. This has been answered a dozen times already.

P.S. No support is given for burns not using IHAS and verbatims on this forum I believe

i am no expert but I questioned the same thing. When I was using a samsung drive with LT 2.01 I had no problems w/ my internal Lite On drive and memorex.. Now that I am using a benq and lt 3.0 (with the topology injected), without a liteon Ihas using the burner max fw I just create coasters.. And , yes, use verbatims.. it really does make a difference.. My burn quality has changed dramatically.

At some point all new games will need the new metro dash... so you will need to update to 3.0 FW and use the topology backups...

Over there
20 bucks isn't a whole lot if it is then you shouldn't be playing games instead applying for a job or higher paying job. Just buy it and forget about ever worrying about this. Sorry if i'm coming too strong but this is true.

Online, Offline, whatever every professional here will advise you to get an iHAS drive.

Yes you need one, it's not debatable or open for discussion any longer.

The many reasons you need one are posted all of over the forum, and repeatably posted, so much so that a simple search will throw up a good days reading.

iHAS dvd burner makes it easy burn the full backup of your purchased game to avoid any CIV check errors like what happenes in forza 4 and the truncation method.

but if the dvd burner is not available in your area then you got no choice but to truncate and hope for the best my friend.
