I'm new to modding an xbox 360 drive but im pretty confident since i have assembled my pc all by myself so i want to give it a shot.
The store where i bought my 360 had a premoddded drive, and since i lost warranty and the store just charges too much to upgrade my drive (when looking i need to upgrade it every few months) im forced to do it myself.
My question is:
Do i have to dump the drive key just once with the ck3 and probe or i will need the kit every time i upgrade?
Is it necessary for me to buy the kit?
Can I just go to the store and ask the guy to dump it for me on my usb stick?
Will i then just need a sata cable?
-
Basicly what ive heard, that dumping the drive key is not necessary in this process but is strongly recommended since if u screw it up u can throw ur xbox in the trash and cant replace ur drive since u dont know your key.

sorry if similar question like this has been asked before, but i must be sure before doing something important like this.
Thanks in advance

always dump the key before starting any sort of mod/ hack on the drive and which lite on drive is it and we will tell you what you need to dump/ flash it. ;)

No matter what drive you have.

You will always need a compatible sata chipset or better a x360usb Pro to read and write the drive
A ck3 Lite/Pro to power the drive
A molex to power the ck3 - If you have one in your pc, even better.
And the programs.
If you are extracting the key for the first time, you will need the probe 3

and with the new glitch hack, your key is retrievable from nearly every revision of motherboard, so losing the key isn't as bad as it used to be

And if you have not udated your dash already id advise to flash to stock rather 7 8 or 9 series liteon it will tell you what you have on the label, then update latest dash and flash with lt1.91, all you need to save and keep safe is your dummy bin

Thanks thats what i wanted to know.
So, what do i need to find out about my mobo to check the sata chipset? I want to bypass the usb pro and use my sata. My motherboard is gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 and it has sata connectors on the back side too.
It might be a newb answer but i have never opened my 360 before :D. Don't know which liteon i have  i just checked the yellow wires and if it helps i have a jasper mobo. I will definitely buy the ck3 pro since i heard that powering the drive with console will get u flagged.

Damn... i have updated my console and it stocked my drive 1 month ago. So i had to take it to the store and reflash it. Could that have flagged my console? All i did was update the console offline via usb, then connected to live for a short time to download the avi support. Could it get flagged by the server side?

Your lite-on regardless of type now, if updated past the 13146 dashboard is now a 02510c revision.

All lite-on drives are. So best bet is to update your 360 to the current 13599 dashboard via live. And then extract your key using a Probe 3 kit. That way, all the serial, and other info is also extracted, and the correct firmware will be autoloaded.

As to checking your Mobo, all you can do is hook it up and see if it will see it, if it does, that's half the battle, after that it's extracting the key, Just because your mobo see's it, doesn't mean it will read and write it.

Your cheapest option is a pci sata via 6421a card. as these work just fine with Phat Lite-ons. But if your planning to do a few more to re-coup your outlay then the x360usb pro, is the best way to go.

As to being flagged you need to check Xval. Just search for it and you will find it. It is not as 100% as it was, but it will give you an indication as to whether you have been flagged or not.
