I'm an idiot; Flashing From X3 Live

Ok, I'm an idiot... I rushed into this thing like everything else I do and didn't read enough. I wound up flashing a 'bad' BIOS on banks 1234 and got the 'ol flashing red and green. I guess the X3 smarter than me though, becuase I set the DIP switches to 5678 and got back into the FlashBIOS. I was able to put the latest X3 BIOS on that 1MB bank and get into X3 Live... I promptly turned on the flash protection :)

So here I sit with banks 1234 filled with useless garbage, afraid to touch anything. I should mention that I did all this last night after work (skipping food in true nerd fashion) and plan on ditching work early today to go cuddle with my XBox, but I'd like to get the FlashBIOS back into banks 1-4 in case I do something stupid again. I'm a little confused, and I apologize for asking something that is probably obvious, but I'm eager - you understand, right?

Anyway, what is my "safest" move at this point to get my X3 back into an idiot-proof state to where if I screw something up horribly I will be able to get back to the Flash BIOS? Can I simply stick the FlashBIOS back into banks 1-4 from X3 Live? I'm afraid to play with the "switch banks" menu option for fear of trying to make it boot off of 1234 again despite the DIP settings... I played around a bit with the 'backup' options, but it kept wanting to do stuff with the HD which is (still) stock so I don't want to mess with it until the new HD shows up.

Perhaps someone could float me some links to relavent threads..?

Oh, I have an v1.4 with an X3.

Easiest way is to use Backup. I'm not sure what you mean when you say it asked you to do something with the hard drive? Just push power and eject (with the xbox off to start) and it should bring up flashbios.

You can put flashbios back onto your 1234 bank easilly. FTP the flashbios .bin file onto your c: into a folder called bios.

Then in X3 Config live select bios flashing option. Select bank 1 (256k bank) and select via hdd. navigate to the bios folder select flashbios and away you go. (make sure you turn flash protect off agian) . Rinse and repeat. umm i mean repeat for each of banks 2 and 3 and 4. (flashbios is 256k so do it one bank at a time)

Cheers

Thanks! That is pretty much what I needed to know. I also since found out that if I hold Power and Eject during startup it will boot the backup ROM which is the FlashBIOS. So I guess this thing comes pretty well idiot-proofed already.
