I'm new and totally strange in this world

Hi there, i'm new in the whole Xbox scene, but my 2 sons wanted a Xbox 360 so i bought one from someone. I am totally new in this all and i have a few questions. Hopefully you can help me with this?

I bought a Xbox360 (white one without an HDD in it) and the guy who sold me this told me that it was modded...he means i could run burned games with it, but before i can i must run a DVD first and when that one was loaded i could eject it and place the burned one in it. I tried to find some info on the internet, but it seems to be a pretty closed scene for noobs like I am.

While i registered for this forum I had to answer some questions of which i really don't know the answers for...so maybe you can help me?

- How do i know which DVD drive i have?
- How is the mod called which i have?
- The Xbox360 is manufactured in March 2008. Is this bad?
- The guy who sold me the Xbox told me it was also modded for the red ring of death. Is that good?
- Can I play online with this Xbox?

Hopefully you are willing to help me with this. I tried some other forums, but they all seems to be dead somehow, so hopefully i got the right forum now

According the year it may be falcon.

Which dashboard are you running on? You can find out in console settings /system info
console will probably have LT flashed. But I don't know why you have to use DVD first. Maybe someone more experienced will tell you.

And that it has rrod modded, that means, there is mod, preventing console from rrod (mostly overheating)

If your backups are chcecked in abgx and burned properly and of course console isn't banned. You can play games online. But I am not sure about that flash maybe you will need to reflash to latest LT.

Yes. Check that dashboard version. You will find there a lot of info about your console.

Did you tried to insert burned game without using dvd what happens? Because even if I search on internet I can't find anything similar.

The only time that I know of that u needed a boot disc to run backup games was back in the day with ixtreme 1.6 firmware I think. So if that is the case your xbox is well outdated modding wise.

Wow I am not on this scene so long. So I didn't need to use this firmware

What you need to do is update your cfw to ixtreem 3.0. then all you need is any burned game, no need to hot swap discs. you could also look into installing a CR4, and demon which are also both nice options for a falcon. Also curious how they did the RROD fix? Alot of people fix these with heat guns, which is a crappy fix at best, so I would be a bit skeptical about that. If it works, I probably wouldnt worry about it too much.
