I'm so confused! Crystal Xbox 1.6b Please Help :(

SO... after much anticipation I finally got my Xecuter 3. I used the supplied LPC rebuild PCB then installed the chip using the header pin installation.

After many resoldering attempts I finally got both blue LED's to light up. I can now get the original M$ Dashboard to boot normally when I hold the power button for a little while and the external switch LED comes up red like it should, HDD LED also works. When I try to enable the chip my box frags, and the the light on the external switch is still red. When I try the "hold both the power and eject buttons" for the backup, my xbox does absolutly nothing.

So I'm a little confused at this point about the whole version 1.6b thing. I've been reading posts on this forum for about 4 hours now and I'm still confused. I have no idea what cromwell version is on this chip since I haven't seen the cromwell screen yet from this chip.

So lets say this is the older cromwell version.... will the cromwell flashbios screen still come up if the chip is installed properly or will it just frag like mine is doing right now? Does it have to be reflashed in a differant xbox so it can boot normally in my 1.6b?

Any help would be much appreciated! I'm ready to drive over the whole works with my truck! Thanks.

if the Xbox is fragging before you have been able to see the flashbios screen then I'm afraid there is a bad solder point somewhere. It isn't the D0 point because the Xbox fraggs when you try to boot the chip but not when you boot M$ dash. It is most probably around the LPC or rebuild. I followed the tut and soldered certain points of the LPC and then attached the rebuild PCB and soldered the rest. If your install is correct and you have an old version of flashbios with a V1.6b xbox then you will just get a blank screen but no fragg and the blue LED on the switch will be lit, if this is the case you need to put the chip in another Xbox (not a V1.6b) and flash from there. Hope this helps.

OUCH house work sucks. The best investment I made was a good magnifying glass with stand saved me a couple of times.

:D  :D

I read it somewhere that crystal xbox's are tough to mod.

Ive done two crystals and one standard and I don't think they are any different. The only difference is in the flashing with the later V1.6b. The LPC rebuild PCB is a great help though.

House work does suck. Anyways I found that LPC rebuild kind of a pain in the ass, it didn't fit quite well on my board.

Anyone have a clue as to which pin may be causing this? I've heated up my board so much I'm getting a bit concerned of doing any damage with more heat.

Alright... let me rephrase that. For MY not so great soldering skills it didn't fit too well. :D Kind of wish the PCB had small holes where the soldering spots were insted of on the side. I found a bit tricky to get the solder to flow between the two. Oh well, it's good practice. I really need some new soldering tips, mines pretty fried. Bad thing is I can't get mine where I live, they don't stock them unfortunatly. Have to find some on the net somewhere.

Anyways...

and if you mess it up its almost impossible to remove the pcb - also a side solder is 100 times easier than a hole

trust me its been tried tested and flamed as a really sh*t design

the current pcb is perfect - dont blame the pcb on not very good ijnstall skills - thanks

Good point, no I'm not knocking the design. I'll just be happy when I finally get it to work!

Anyways I have to finish cleaning before I start feeling lazy. :D

Thanks

The blue light on the switch came on! FINALLY!! But yeah just my luck... black screen!!

Now I'll have to reflash the damn thing, hope I can figure out this part out now. *sigh*

SO close.....

I missed a soldering point on the rebuild kit, the print out I had of it was pretty fuzzy, it was that one area where you solder the the 3 points across the PVC

Alright! I'm finally done. I had to rip a Xecuter 2.2 pro out of my neighbors xbox install this X3 and reflashed. Installing the X3 with a quick wire install sure went smoothly on a version 1.1. First try, no problem at all... damn the 1.6's!

So the X3's back in my Box and I reinstalled the 2.2 back in to the other box. Now after a lot of hassle I have my old 120 gig drive, wireless network adapter and the newest Xbox Media Center (released today) all up and running great. Listening to shoutcast right now from XBMC.

Unfortunatly there's that glitch with UnleashX, the dashboard I prefer. But I can handle using X-Switch till the fix comes out for it. My bios banks are a bit screwed up but oh well, its running... I'll tweak them at a later date.

Anyways thanks for helping me make the best xbox in town! The friends are jealous!

Re: XviD codec - video streaming on a banned console...

if ur console is banned u cant do anythin on it. u should have already done downloaded it. if u already did download the codec u should be fine with streaming music and videos to ur xbox as long as ur doin it from ur computer, and not market place.
