Well, about a month ago my 360's DVD Drive failed and it no longer reads games. I'm out of warranty so I can't send it in to Microsoft (I voided it). My question is...Is there a way I can just buy a replacement DVD drive and just snap it back in with no problems? I have a Hitachi DVD Drive by the way. I was thinking about just buying another Hitachi DVD drive and just taking the old DVD drive out (the one that's broken) and putting the new Hitachi DVD drive, that I'm planning to buy, back in. Will this work with no problems or is there some other steps involved? Please help me out.

Okay, there are some other steps involved...

Follow this guide, and it should get you back up and working :D

If you don't have a dump of your original drive, or don't have the KEY - Then I'm afraid to say your screwed... There's not really any other way of doing it, except sending it off to a company that fixes bricked drives, try searching it on google, there are loads, but I am not allowed to post them on the forum I don't think...

If you have your KEY, follow the instructions, if not... Your going to have to send it off :(

OR, your can buy a chip that does it, that reprograms the FW and stuff, search around :D

Lol, the dump is a raw copy of the original firmware saved on a computer or a memory unit... The key is an encrypted password that is programmed into the DVD drive and motherboard to stop people from taking out one drive, and replacing it with another...

But thanks to the programming gods, they have given us ways to bypass and manipulate these security protocols against them :D
