power button to pc mod? updated.... it worked

so im off to take a dying 360 i have and stick it in a pc case to help extend the life.

ive decided why not go out a little bit and sort of modify the system to fit the case better.

so for the usb's i will simply get some short extension cables and glue them to to the pc case's usb outs while plugging the other ends to the 360.

im going to do the 12v fan mod and prob figure out a way to install another fan or two in the case itself from the gpu out the back or side and move the real fans out back.
etc etc

my problem is with the power button. i want to use the existing 360 button/leds with their existing little pcb board in tact.
here is what i was thinking and if someone has done it successfully and can give me tips i would appreciate it.

I have a DEAD 360 lying around and was thinking of ripping the two connector plugs that secure the pcb to the main board off and soldering thin wires to the 9 points. in essence i am making an extension cable from the power button to the main board.
this way i can move the led board anywhere in the pc case that works best and have the power button and leds available for ease and trouble shooting.

has anyone done this and does it work, is there one out there i could buy, will i fry my main board?

thanks

Re: power button to pc mod?

this will be the third time i have pulled this thing apart. i have already done xclamps then re heat sinked once again after that.

now i will re heat sink, attach a heat sink to the small processor off to the side, i think i will try to reflow it as well and do the fan mod. I think it would be a neat project and help maintain the life of this system which i already flashed.

everything would be free anyway.

Re: power button to pc mod?

it worked

me and my buddy marc spent about 2 hours soldering both the dvd cables and the power button to extend them.
the wires we used were actually just cat 5 cables.

another update not in the photo was i added a splice for 12v to the fan onto the dvd cable. The reason I am doing things the way i am with connections only is so if this 360 ever dies i could just take another one and pop it into the pc case with no additional soldering needed (granted all the points are the same between boards. At least at this point i know samsung and ben q have the same points because the parts seem to be interchangeable.
