 Alright, so I just decided to mod my xbox(little late) so I bought a Xecuter v2.6 CE and I installed it with no problems. Now I have to flash bios to it but I cant seem to figure it out. I am trying to use the network flashing but I am geting this message when i try to flash anything to it (Illegal size, not flashing). So, I go and search for other bios from torrent to using xbins that might work but i get the same message. I think I just need to change the fomat from .rar to .bin or something but I am not sure what I am doing. I have tried using every tutorial that I could find but still nothing. So if I could just get a little help I would be greatful.

Ok, you're either going to hate that I'm pointing this out or you're still going to be confused.

RAR is a file compression format like ZIP (or StuffIt SIT files if you're a Mac user). You need a utility such a WinRAR to uncompress the files archived within. If you downloaded the X2CL 5035 RAR file there will be 4 files inside I think. 2 .BIN BIOS files, one which is for 1.0-1.5 Xboxes and one that is for 1.6+ Xboxes. The other two files are the readme/changelog and and LBA48 information file. There may be more, but the important ones are the .BIN files. You want to select the right one for your version of Xbox and then flash the BIOS with that file. You'll see that these two BIN files are both 512KB and properly sized for flashing.

After you flash be sure you select bank 1 on your switches. FlashBIOS always starts writing on bank 1, so if you have bank 2 selected and leave it selected you will still see FlashBIOS loading.

BTW, I would recommend only getting files from Xbins. Files picked up via P2P sharing cannot always be trusted.

I figured it would be something simple like that and it explains why I could not really find any thing on it in the forums. I'll try it and get back to you. Thanks

Ok, next problem. Now that I have the bios downloaded I can start the xbox and the evox sysmbol is in the top left hand corner. Now I need to make a boot disc, RIGHT? So I find a tutorial and it is telling me that I have to conver the evolutionx files that I got from xbins to xiso (.ini/.xbe to xios). Right. fine. So I download a converter and I go to the file and it does not even show up in the file for evox.ini and evoxdash.xbe. What am I doing wrong? The tut said something about downloading the dashborad as an iso file already would it just be easier to do that instead?
Thanks for all the help and withstanding my question how noobish they may be!

i never created the boot disc, but i unpacked all the files and stuck the .xbe file right into the C/ drive and all the other files in coorsponding folders. the dash works fine for me and right now i have evox, avalaunch, mxm, and unleashed, and they all work fine.

Ok I got past the boot disc by downloading the new version of evolution x beta in iso form already. Now I am using the tut from http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/evox-install.php and it says to use flashfxp to back up the hard drive but I can't log on to the xbox like it says to. FlashFXP just says Connection failed (connection lost).
Lil help from anybody!

Thanks (Really getting tired of spending all of my free time on trying to figure out what I am doing wrong!!!)

What is the IP of the Xbox and the IP of your computer? Are they even in the same subnet? Can you ping your Xbox across the network?

Finally, the stupid wireless router was not working so it is working now and I got the correct IP. Now (though) I am puting a new hard drive and and following the tutorial but am still not able to make an iso file for a boot disc. The tut makes it sound like I should be able to still boot a game even but I can't do that. I just want to convert some files to iso is that so much to ask??
Thanks agin

What program are you using to create an Xiso? I've used Craxtion4 with no problems, has easy-as-pie wizards. Get the files you want together in a directory (make sure there is the desired default.xbe at the "base" of this structure) select "create new iso" in Craxtion and point it to that directory. Let it run and poof, you've got an iso file. Then use your favorite burning software (some people have recommendations here. I've used Nero and DVD Decrypter with no probs.) to burn the iso file *as an image* (don't just go and drop foobar.iso onto the disc as a file) and then give it a go in your box. Remember that the Xbox can be picky on media, more so depending on what brand drive you have in there. I've had good luck with DVD+/-R and DVD+RW in my Thompson. I believe this is supposed to be one of the pickiest drives in Xboxes. I know a CD-RW also worked when I first modded some time ago, no idea what brand or speed it was tho.

Here is a new idea for solveing the same problem. If I use slayers it sounds like i could just download it then burn it to a disc.(not for sure thought) The only problem is that i can not find a place ot download it(in iso form). I have downloaded the instructions and it sound like i can download the iso some where else but i cant seem to find it with out being haveing to pay for it.

Trying everything and nothing is working! The new tut for installing a hard drive is not working as well because I can not load the evox dash board. I figured i could just use the same boot disc that I used for installing evox on the original hard drive. For some reason it dose not work though. I have tried many differant forms of evox, downloading form many differant places, and burning them in differant ways but nothing seems to work. Also reconecting the original hard drive and booting up theevolution x dashbord works fine but when I turn off hte chip it will just go to the friken error screen in green with a number at the top left and "Service required, Call Customer Support." Even though this pisses me off I belieave that I can just fix it when I have the new hard drive in. Tired of the head aches!!

RE Slayers... have you looked on Xbins? Link with directions in my sig.

And what happens when you boot the other discs you've created? What is the error the box gives you? Are you burning the discs at a high or low speed? Generally the lower you can get speed wise the better the chances are of the disc being read.

I did download a version off of xbins but it is a wierd file type that I can not go in to and look at the files inside. The disc that i am trying to use is to boot with the new hard drive is the same exact disc that worked when i downloaded it on to the old hard drive, so i don't know why it is not working. When i burned it i burned it at the lowest speed possible, and the same error screen (black bacground with green letters) comes up with all of them saying the error number in the top left of the screen(the number beeing differant with every cd or with no cd at all). Then it says "Service required, Call Customer Support" in many differant langages on the entire screen. Sorry to say this but what is your sig.(i am vry stupid and it pisses me off.

If the Slayers file from Xbins was a .rar file (most of them are) you'll need something like WinRAR do decompress it. Think of it as a competitor to the zip compression used by WinZIP. Was that the case with the file?

If what you download was a torrent tracker then you will need a program like bittorrent to download the actual files

The tracker is used by the bit torrent program to locate places to download the actual files

Success! Hard drive is in and evox is runing great. The only problem I am having is that i can not load the original xbox dash and with the mod chip turned off it wont load just display an error screen that I was getting before. Now this is a major problem because I still want to use Xbox Live. Will I beable to run the evox dash and boot halo 2 or other xbox live game and turn off the chip before I log on to xbox live? Need some final help. Thanks for everything.
