Xbox live- you will need to boot off the retail BIOS. Booting from the mod and then switching it to disabled doesn't do a thing. The mod is really only used at boot time to provide the BIOS and load it into memory. If you try to connect to live from booting a mod BIOS one of two things will happen... 1) you won't connect. The more later incarnations of the X2 BIOS and the entire current X2CL series blocks Live access. This is nice because otherwise... 2) you'll get your box banned. BIOSes that don't block it are a quick way to a dead live account.

What is the error you are getting when the retail BIOS loads and then the MS dash fails? Did you unlock your HDD? If so have you re-locked it to your box? Retail BIOS won't work unless your drive is locked. The error code should give you a clue, you can look them up on Xbox-Scene.

To an extent, yes you can play games from other consoles. You'll want to look for emulators. I frequently run the Atari 2600 and NES emulators that are available on the Xbox. If you're looking to play Gamecube or PS2 games, don't bet on it. I'm not aware of an emulator for these and if there was one the processor overhead of the emulator itself would likely make it unplayable. You can find a large number of emulators on Xbins, check the link in my sig for how to use it. No need to torrent, and you're getting the right stuff at xbins. It is run by the mod community rather than just being unknown data on a number of strangers computers.

How do i fix a error 13, all xbox-scene tells me is "13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed." And how do I back up xbox games on to my hard drive.

Some items that could cause the dash to fail are

1. Hard drive was unlocked and not relocked before booting into original Bios
2. Hard drive was replaced and progonal Dashboard files were not copied over to new drive
3. On of the original dashboard files have been deleted or decome corrupt

I have not determined the problem. It seems that I can load the msdash through the boxplorer and the only thing I can not acces is the xbox live setings. Which I think means that the new hard drive I put in is not locked or the original bios ar not loading, but the hard drive is locked. I can not find any other problem that might be affecting this let alone a solution. If any one has had this same problem or might have an idea of what to do, I am more than open to other ideas. Agin the error screen that comes up is 13(if that helps). I don't know if downloading a new msdash and installing it would help or not. Thanks a bunch

Since in order to get to the MS dash you are booting from a mod BIOS this is probably why you are unable to get to your XBL settings. Not sure how XBL works, but if it needs to connect to the Live network to retrieve account info/settings then this action will be blocked at the BIOS level.

Honestly, to me it sounds like either a locking issue (although you say it is locked) or an issue with the MS dash... when you access the MS dash via BoXplorer is it still named xboxdash.xbe?

Right now I have the ms dash named msxboxdash.xbe. Should it be something differant like defaultdash.xbe or something(will this make any differance?). Also I did get xbox live to work but is did not do anything to it. I just started up the xbox like normal and boom it worked. Even before this happened i was haveing problems with the dash i was useing so I changed the dash version and now xbox live dose not work agin. It is still doing the exact same thing it was doing before. So what I am thinking is it will start working eventually like it did the last time(probly not).

YEEEEESSSSSS! Figured it out. Now everything is running fine and now I want to get some other types of apps. Such as Xbox media player. Don't know if anyone can help me but I was just wondering if anyone has tried this program? I am not quite sure how to download it to the xbox and I am confused about downloading the source code and others downloads for it.

One final thing. I swaped the original hard drive with a 300 gig hard drive and from other forums and websites i should be able to get about 150 games on there(about), but when I go to look at the about of space in the F drive there is 124.805.218.304 and 0 in the G drive. Is that about right?? It just seemed to me that the amout was alittle low. But what do I know I am a noob. Just need a little clarity. Thanks agin for all the help, it has been special.

On the original Xbox BIOSes the HDD addressing was LBA28 which limited the HDD size to 137GB. LBA48 breaks that barrier and allows up to 2.2TB. It sounds like your BIOS is currently set in LBA48 mode where F gets up to the 137GB mark but I don't know if it is the setting that supports G at all. the G drive may just need to be formatted. Playing around with the UnleashX dashboard this weekend and I found that it has individual options for formatting each drive. Don't know how other programs work with this. If you drop UnleashX on your box (btw, use xbins to get your mod software. see the link in my sig.) you can try to format the G drive and see if it is allowed. If the G drive still does not exist you need to change up the LBA48 setting on the BIOS and reflash. I would advise backing up the HDD before you start messing around with this. The easiest setting is the "F gets all" setup where F will be anything left over on the HDD after the standard partitions are created. You will need to repartition to get set up this way, this will wipe your data. If you instead want to just proceed with the F drive as is and add the G drive you'll want to change the BIOS to the "F to 137, G gets rest" setting and then reflash. In *theory* this should allow you to then format the G drive and your current data on F will remain untouched. I haven't tried anything like this, so attempt at your own risk.

Can I set up the F drive so it gets all left over data by useing UnleashX or how would I do that then?

Determining the size of the drives is done by the BIOS. If you flash X2CL 5035 at the default "F gets all" setting UnleashX (or any other app that partitions and formats) will give all the extra space to the F drive. The key is having the BIOS set up right first.

Ok, first off do you mean the bios that are displayed on the dash board or the bios that are flashed to the mod chip. Secondly, I put unleashX on my box and I tryed to format the g drive. When I did this it said "are you sure you want to format the G drive?" I clicked yes. then it said "click yes to proceed with formating proceses"(or something like that) So I click and nothing happens. So i went to settings and enabled the ge drive and rebooted the xbox and tryed agin but the same thing happend. I don't know what is going on.

There is only one BIOS. This is the BIOS that you flash to your chip to run mod software. If you have a dash that displays that info (EvoX, Avalaunch will show it, UnleashX does too I think) all that this is doing is reading this same BIOS data either from memory or directly from the chip. Probably the easiest way to change the BIOS setting is with the X2 Config Maker available at http://www.x-projects.org. You will then need to flash that BIOS to your chip.
