I got the modchip today and installed it and everything was working perfect. I then tried the dvd flash and the xbox stopped 3/4 of the way through the progress bar and the led blinked orange. :( I then tried to restart it and It would reset 3 times then boot to blinking red and green. I am still sometimes able to get it to boot to either the MS dash or flash bios 3.01 by pressing buttons of and on and once in a 100 it will work. I can't boot to the backup either. Has anyone else had this problem... I have seen threads like this but not exact so I was wondering if some of you XBOX GODS out there could help. I resoldered and checked my points twice on the board and still no go. If anyone can help me out also flux for solder doasnt have continuity does it becasue that could be a minor problem but i dont have really any on the board. Any replies are great.

I think I've read almost every similiar forum for this topic or close to it....

If you could direct me else where that would be great...

THanks A bunch for any help from anyone It is all much appreciated even if it is just a suggestion....:) :)

You can tell the difference between the 1.6 and the 1.6B by checking the motherboard for what type of ram you've got. The 1.6 will say samsung on the ram chip, and the 1.6B will say Hynix.

Turn Both protect switches off (one on the X3 chip and one on the external switch)

For a 1.6 You should have your switches set to - on on off off
for a 1.6B set them to off on off off

Make sure you use the X3_3029_v16plus.bin (if that's the version you chose, remember that the latest version is X3_3108_v16plus.bin )

To boot to backup you need to hold power and eject whie the xbox boots up, but if you have a 1.6B your backup will probably not work, due to the Flashbios 3.0.3 being needed. (your backup only has 3.0.1 on it.)

Hope this info helps you out.

I am home now and let me speak what i for sure found out... Thanks for all the help my xbox is a v1.6 not a v1.6b because i checked on the ram... Also i have tried both the X3_3029_v16plus.bin and the X3_3108_v16plus.bin and when i do it i still won't totally flash the bios.. I try to boot to the backup or even regular boot, ive tried all the boots and i just either get christmas lights with the leds or once in a hundred it boots to flash bios. Any help again is greatly appreciated thanks....

Please advise wether you have a standard switch or the pro switch. also advise your current switch settings.

Lastly, what happens on the tv screen when you push power and eject (and hold it while booting)

Thanks for the help.... I have a standard switch and the pins are to on on off off off and the TV does nothing except for the 1 in a 100 times that it actually boots to the bios or the ms dash if i want to do that.......

Well looks like switch settings are correct, your using the right bios, As long as you burnt the dvd correctly i can't see why it wouldn't work. Can you boot to M$ dash upon request - i.e. a long push of the power button? or is that random too? if so it could still be a soldering problem.

I have a 1.6 and experienced the exact same thing!!! On the same header pins I put a Xenium ICE in, it worked fine so it’s definitely the chip. The bios I tried to load was 3108 off of XBINS. It worked fine for my last box (ver 1.1) The little box the chip came in opened and all the pieces were bouncing around so I thought the board had been damaged because all the other chips that came with it worked fine. Have you tried other bioses? Where did you purchase the chip? Maybe there is a bad lot or just don’t like 1.6 boxes.

Well there's definitely stuff to try here, although I will say that if checking your soldering and trying another BIOS doesn't help at all, then you may have a faulty chip. I've seen it before on the forums and after a swapped chip it worked fine.

Fixxed it Yea

:D Try this I put it in “safe mode” (back up 256k bios) then I flashed bios 3029 1.6 version. The weird thing is that to go into x3 bios I need to use the eject button to start it sometimes instead of the pwr button. I FTPed bios 3108 1.6 version to E:. I went thru the x3 bios menu and reflashed 1-4 again. Works like a champ!! Hopes it helps!?
