Installing linux on internal HDD

Has anyone attempted to install a working copy of linux on their JTAG HDD? I'm trying to do this on the internal HDD and so far it hasn't gone as smoothly as I would have hoped for.

I have managed to load gentoo Live from the disc but it can only view the CD-Rom and the system files but I'm guessing I need to mount the internal HDD some how before it can see it!!!

I also tried a copy of ubuntu linux version but that won't even load.

I have come across this earlier when I was searching but didn't seem to look that clear to follow. Suffice to say I did try it but one of the files in the wget command link is no longer available from ubuntu site.

I tried a slightly different file but no success.

No, I'm using a zephyr. But I don't see any reason why it shouldn't run on any board. Gentoo linux loads fine apart from few missing modules it couldn't find during load up. Following the tutorial all went well up to the point I had to use this:

>wget http://archive.ubuntulinux.org/ubuntu/pool/main/d/debootstrap/debootstrap_0.3.3.2ubuntu3_all.deb

Thr file debootstrap_0.3.3.2ubuntu3_all.deb no longer exists so I tried the nearest thing to it. Having download a slightly different version of debootstraper I uncompressed it and ended up with a data.tar.gz which I successfully extracted as well.

Moved to the next stage where I mounted the /mnt/sda/work and used the export command to assign the paths. Yet still when I try to run debootstrap it says unknown command.

My only assumption is that the debootstraper I downloaded is not compatible or run on the 360!!!

I still haven't given up on this.

Hmm, i guess you're right. After all, Xenon could also be reffering to the Xbox 360 codename..

Couldn't find the file either after searching everywhere. Perhaps there are other methods?

Ubuntu 7.10. Dont think you'll need debootstraper in that tutorial?

Anyways, im not that knowledged, as i think the stuff is pretty unstable (or unintegrated), and didn't try it yet.

That looks bit promising, I'm having a go at it right now. You got to love the ROL rings when you boot linux disc, they go orange lolz

Nice :D, would like to hear your opinion of the usability, if you succeed in installing.

Ubuntu 10.04 will be available for Free60 in some time. (No ETA)
Now this is what im waiting for!

Not a smooth sailing I'm afraid. while it downloads and executes the script successfully I think somehow it's failing to create the Linux portions on the HDD.

Wonder if I have to use a standard 2.5" HDD??

Nope. The one I'm after is debootstrap_0.3.3.2ubuntu3_all.deb, while the one you got is debootstrap_0.3.3_all.deb
