someone brought me an un flashed xbox slim and said that it was not playing games or dvd . i did not check it myself i just began to open it up . i took the drive out and i had a drive just like it from another xbox the drives were identical so i unsoldered the pcv's and swaped them and put the drive back in the xbox when i powered it up and put a disk in it instantly says open tray when it closes. so my qustion is did i do something wrong im pretty sure i didnt mix up the drives .could it be something else wrong with the box or do i have to flash the drive somehow?

open tray is laser issue try run the drive open see wat happens, if the laser lights up, spins etc
You need to check that you soldered the wires (red, yellow white, ect) back to the correct pads. If you look closely you will see the indicator next to the pad (r for red y for yellow) so on and so forth.
i definitly got the wires right i can hear the lazer moving and the drive spinning but it seems like the xbox is not even giving the drive a chance i mean as soon as it closes it says open tray and then the disk start spinning
