Hi.

I have a problem with my 1.4/X3 rig. Several folders containing movies&games have disappeared. I cannot access/view them, even though the amount of used space on F: partion tells me that they are still there taking up space. The problem started when I switched the HD to do a little "unlock" operation on the HD i used before. When i sat the new HD back the files were vanished. The partion looked completely blank in file manager exept from the size which indicated that the files were still there, hidden. IIt's possible to transfer new files to the HD and they appear perfectly visible/normal. But i want to restore my old files.

Solutions will be appreciated.

Yeap, there is a tool called xboxhdm. It's basically a Linux distro bootable from a CD that supports FATX partition. You can find more info about it in x-scene forum.

i'm not into linux at all. wouldn't it simply be possible to connect the harddrive to a windows 2000/xp installation and transfer the files from there?

I don't think so. Don't worry about mucking about in Linux: it's quite easy. I enjoy it!

It's bootable off CD, so you don't have to make any changes or anythign to your HDD. Just stick your XBox HDD in the computer, put in the bootable xboxhdm disk, and use it like Windows. I assure it, it's not difficult.

Now, granted, I have never used that linux distrobution, but I have used Knoppix (Great distro!), and it works great. No problems whatsoever.
