Is it a good idea to release PSP iso's?

I've got my modded XBOX and my crappy PS2, but they were modded after the console had time to 'rise' and a great influx of good games were available. The PSP is still in it's infancy, to be able to play pirate games so soon after release is going to hurt Software Sales and potentially the quality of our future games.

I'm all for homebrew and I love the fact that I can play Snes and GB roms on my PSP, but there are wider implication.

Sony have got to be crazy to keep releasing all these updates, homebrew is activley advertising the PSP as a great platform. Why can't console developers learn, give us access and the ability to run our own code.

Anyway, thats the end of the rant.

I think that if a crack comes out for the PSP only a small percentage of buyers will try and use it and even a smaller percentage will use it correctly.

I doubt that any modding of the PSP will adversly affect the game sales at all....

It's the same argument about the music industry... a friggin monkey can find free music on the internet... and you don't see Metalica out begginfg for quarters!

It's true the music industry has even made a profit of sumin in the region of 9-10% in 2004 alone, and to make you laugh they started that talk with how piracy was hurting sales lol

I think on PSPhacker I read that Update 1.52 is close to release...I wonder if this would hurt the progress Team Xecuter is making on the Firmware crack? Does Team X need to crack each Firmware release that will come out just so we can run the Homebrew? Or is it when you crack one, it works for all?

What?

Do you mean that the software developers are making enough money that they don't worry about cracked versions of thier software getting out?

I think that it's a mathmatical situation. Is the money that a console or software developer going to have to put into a system to make it uncrackable more or less then the money that developer stands to loose in hacked versions of games and systems coming out.

Let's make it simple.

I create Catalyst - I'm dating your sister the video game. I sell them for $100.00 a piece. (it's really good... just like your sister!:D )

In my first year I sell 1 million copies... I make $100 million dollars.

Now, I find out that it was iiliegally downloaded a hundred thousand times... so I lost $1 million in sales revenue.

My next game, Catalyst 2 - enter the pimp cane comes out in store next year.

I can spend $500 thousand on anti piracy upgrades... but I have to pay for new customer support in India because Steam sucks... I mean, because there might be problems. So it might end up costing more...

And there is a gamble that it might deter people from buying the game... because Steam sucks! And there is a chance it might get hacked anyway!

So do I say the hell with it and take the estimated $1 million loss or do I gamble with the $500 thousand upgrade and hope my sales stay the same?

Choose your own adventure!!

If you picked A - e-mail me a recent picture of your sister and your home address

If you picked B - Tell your mom I had fun but I want my socks back!

Whelp, I'm confused.

Do you want to fight me over the internet... is that it?

I was making a funny. It was supose to be funny...

I guess you didn't get it. Sorry about that.

And no, I wasn't trying to insult you... I'm sure your penis is big enough...

Also, I don't support piracy... I do mod xbox's... but it's more of a hobby...
like fishing or masturbation.

You see I believe that if you steal software you'll go to hell... just like with masturbation.

Anywho... I was just making a point. When software or hardware companies come out with a product... they will do a cost analysis on lots of things... antipiracy is one of them.

Ever see fight club? Ed Norton says the same thing in that movie. If a car company has a known defect in a car... and the estimated cost of law suits is less than the estimated cost of a recall... then guess what... no recall. Get it?

(I don't think that happens with cars... but it supports my point)

If piracy becomes a problem on PSP then I'm sure Sony will develop something akin to SecuROM or Starforce for the PSP. Right now, piracy is NO problem on the PSP because NOONE on this planet is playing ripped and/or iso'd PSP games.
