I just looked on youtube and someone posted a video like mine. (tries to read, spindle spins for about 1-2 seconds then stops). replaced my laser, cleaned everything. anyways, he said his pcb was bad. Is that a possibility? It worked fine before the flash, could I have did something to mess up the board during the flash?
Bad pcb is unlikely, but not impossible. Have you checked the worm motor? When you say, it tries to read (spindle spins 1-2 sec) does the laser moves back and forth?

Open tray is most of the times one of the following:
-bad laser/ribbon (some "new" lasers are not new, this still can be the case for you)
-bad worm motor
-bad spindle motor
-bad pcb

to solve it, rule out the above and if none work, replace the drive.

yeah, ive been thinking about getting a benq drive. about to slam my head in the wall, so frustrated. heard flashing benq's are easier anyway. to do that will I need to do anything special. I mean do I just plug in the new drive and go? then flash all over from start

also laser ribbon cud be at fault.
