I know for all the experienced people here it's maybe a daft question, but I've read
all the hints & Tips etc, and they don't clarify if it's really needed to install a new
dashboard after you've installed and flashed the Xecuter 2.6 (solderless). There
are a lot of resources on HOW to install it though...

Will I be able to play backups using the original dash? It's just purely from a lazy
man's prespective...

Sorry, forgot to mention it. I meant DVD backups. The problem is that I don't currently
own a DVD burner, but I know someone who might be able to backup some of my
son's games. He already damaged three originals, and this solution is cheaper than
having to replace the orignals (Four year old).

I don't think this should be a problem. In fact, you don't even need a dashboard to play games. They'll boot if you put the disk in the drive, shut off the XBox, and then turn it on again. They are launched directly by the BIOS. I think... :) You should be able to with no difficulty.

if you want to play backed up games then you dont need a new dash, but if you want to back the games up onto your hard drive and play them without disk then yet you will need a dash in order to launch the application thats lets you burn games to the hdd.

Yeah, the old dash works fine for that sort of thing, but tyhen you have no way to get the games from your xbox to any computer to put them on disc, so how would you be able to make backups? A friend? that kinda annoys friends when you bring them piles of discs that you can't back up yourself. I know from personal experiance. "this game is scratched and doesn't read anymore, and these ones i'm done playing them on live, so I would like to have them in good condition if I decide to sell them or something." that gets kinda old :p Best to install a dash because of the FTP features that are manditory if you wish to make a backup on your own, not to mention emulators and XBMC and all the other things you'd miss out on!
