Is removing the backing tape necessary?

I got my x3 today and I looked at the team Xecuter tutorial for installation help, and it showed them taking the backing tape, which I think is the chip that connects the controllers to the motherboard. Is that necessary, can I just leave it alone? and add the rest/eject adapter

thats the backing tape right :?:

Well your post didn't make too much sense to me, but I'll try to be helpful here...

If you are doing a pin-header install, the only thing you are attatching and therefore needing the sticky backing for is the power/eject switch interface. You'll take the backing off of that and stick it to the front of the case above the connectors on the mobo. Now, the other piece of backing you have is for if you do a wire install. If you do a wire install then your chip will now be dangling above the board and you would want to use the other square of double sided tape to attatch it to the side of the case so it doesn't end up floping around and hitting something and short circuiting.

That's what I tried to tell him but from some reason he's circling the connection from the controller ports. I really have no idea what he's trying to ask lol

Oh yeah, and I forgot to add a  for you fret :p

mx432004.. bit of advice....Just follow the installation guide to the letter....If it says stick it, then stick it.. Generally speaking there is a good reason for everything in the guide and bits flopping around inside yer box should be avioded at all costs..

By the way, the "CHIP" that you are refering to is the small PCB that allows you to switch the X3 on and off via the front power/eject buttons.

Good luck with your install matey.
