Ive been searching for a new HDD to use with an X3. I was wondering if anybody has a 120 gig maxtor HDD w/ 5400 rpm, and if so what makes it so inexpensive?

I have a Maxtor 120GB, dunno if it's 5 or 7 thousand rpm but it's fantastic and great value.

I might be the only one to think this: I've fitted quite a few Maxtor 120Gb 7200rpm drives into Xbox's, and they are quite noisy/rough sounding? I have a Western Digital drive in my Xbox and it sounds totally different - quite quiet/smooth.

I have never had any problems with either make of drive, although I've never fitted a 5400rpm drive in an Xbox. (I'll need one soon though as my Sky+ will be getting upgraded, and I plan on using the drive Sky provide in their Sky+160 box).

Yup, Western Digitals are the best. Check out Newegg.com also as they have a 200GB drive for $97.00 or so.

i have done 3 HDD upgrades and have used Maxtor 120gb 7200rpm every time. I find they are a very reasonable cost and have worked flawlessly.
