lol those are both identicle items. i would reconsider trying this if i were you. its not an easy install regarldless of what others are saying and they need to stop saying it so noobs stop killing consoles trying. after 2 days you are not even sure what you need still. i hate to put anyone off doing anything themselves but i forsee disaster coming your way mate. send it to a pro. a single install is going to cost almost as much getting the required parts needed to do the hack than it would have been to pay a competent person to do it for you. i don't understand anyone with no experience of jtagging at least is even thinking about trying this. i can jtag till the cows come home but am still hitting install problems and am not too proud to admit it.

its probably the sensible move mate. phat console have 2 real sh*tty points to get on and slims still have one of those so neither is simple as some are putting it. just because something has been made as simple and user friendly as possible doesnt mean it will be simple or user friendly as thats entirely down to the user.

My only question is do i still need the usb update cable? I mean if i read it correctly, if i order a nand-x now it already comes with v3 in it. DO i still need the cable for future updates?

the USB update cable isnt required, it might help if the code gets updated later but for now its fine without it.
