This question goes out to anyone who has had experience with the August 06 0078fk Hitachi drives or knows of anyone who has: will the VIA 6421A chipset work for flashing the firmware and dumping the original through the Slax 2.1 method and Toolbox 3.0? If not, will a SATA-to-USB cable work (and any recommendations)?
The reason why I am asking the first question is because after reading many threads here I've come across conflicting accounts on whether or not the VIA 6421A will work with the 0078fk drive, because half of the people say they have had success with it, but another half say they haven't. If anyone has had success with it and was using an Aug 2006 build of the drive I would be very thankful if you can verify that the chipset does work.
I am asking my second question because I've also read in the Toolbox 3.0 thread that many (if not all) SATA-to-USB cables fail to dump the original firmware of the drive, and that is something I really need to be done. So if anyone can confirm that SATA-to-USB cables will indeed do both dumping the original firmware and flash the drive through Toolbox 3.0 for the 0078fk drive I will be very thankful.
