Is XBOX Live or ethernet connection required ?

I noticed that every time I put a new game into my system, an update is required. I think it is an update for the game itself, not for the dashboard. Is this right?

When we start the box, it signs into XBOX live (with or without a game in). I presume IF there is a ban on modded boxes, we wouldn't be able to login at all. Not just to play the games. I also presume that we will no longer be able to get any future game updates. Is this correct?

Finally, what if I simply unplug my ethernet? Would doing that prevent me from playing some games or some functions?

I want to unplug until I need to connect for some reason. I just don't want it to cripple my system somehow because there is no "Live" connection.

The reason the games keep asking for an update everytime is more likley down to the media you back games are on. Get good media

this does happen somtimes yes but happens alot when you use crap media hence the above post :)

I am not 100% sure about not needing LIVE. Some games says that I have to log onto LIVE or else I cannot save my game or progress (I.E. Burnout Revenge). That means some games REQUIRE LIVE to play. Or am I missing something? What do people with internet access do with these games then, can't save?

I think I understand now. My original profile was "XBOX Live". Everytime I choose it, it automatically logs onto Live. So what I have to do is create another profile that is not and don't "join XBOX live". Is this correct? Or is there a way I can choose my original profile and NOT log into Live?

It is worth a try. I dont have live and have never connected my box to their server. Some games do require live to play, like final fantasy, but most do not - espically not to save game progress.

Can I use a profile that is "xbox live" and not connect to the Live? I am not sure how to do that. Every time I choose it, it signs into Live automatically. the reason is all my saves are already associated to that profile. unless there is a way to copy to over to a newly created profile.

Just yank the ethernet cable out of the wall and give it a try... I'll bet it wont connect then ;-P
