Can you copy an xbox iso image straight to the harddrive and play or would you need to extract the files first? ie burnout3.iso for example

Well this is a yes / no answer. If you use Qwix to transfer the iso you don't have to do the extraction yourself, it will do that for you. If you ftp it using a ftp client such as FlashFXP you will have to extract the iso first then ftp it (slow process). I recommend using Qwix (automated easy process).
one more thing about qwix, it is a lot faster than ftping the files (not including the iso extraction)
