I have been attempting to fix a 360 with a broken dvd drive. I do computer repair and have fixed several playstation 3's so I figured i'd give it a whack.
His drive was not opening so i took the box, and the drive apart. several plastic pieces inside were murdered (im assuming someone kicked it while opening) and I was in no mood to take all that crap out and replace it. So i ordered an identical drive and swapped it over. (mistake 1)
I threw a dvd in it and it work fine so i gave it back. it then came back to me with him saying it wasn't playing games. It would act like its starting the game and then just return to home. His xbox isn't connected to xbox live (nor has it been for a long while) so I thought maybe an update would fix it. (mistake 2)
Of course the update didn't fix it... that is when i found out about MicroSHAFTs dvd drives being mated to the original motherboard. Phuck.
I then removed the original pcd board from the original drive and installed it on the replacement drive (yay soldering!). Everything seemed fine so i threw a game in (black cops II or something
) and i receive one red light and an error code on screen "e66. we at microshaft just plain don't like you and have have fun laughing at your problems. HAHAHAHAHa you lose". (at least thats how i read it)
Upon more research it would seem that the dash number and the drive number need to be the same? (or something like that) So i then "deleted" the system update (using the trick on the storage screen) and updated again. same problem. SO im wondering if i flash the drive if that will/can fix the issue. I don't care about playing back ups (or however its worded to sound legal) i just want to be able to play original store bought games again.
Im seeking help because Ive made enough mistakes and figured i better find out before i make it worse. I've yet to find anyone with the same exact problem as me and i haven't seen anything that looks like it may work. (also, if it helps im pretty sure I have an extra working drive from another system as well.)
If this is in the wrong section let me know also thanks in advance for any help
