It's done!!Now a question about flashing.

After a few snags it's finally complete and functional. My questions are concerning flashing the chip via FTP, by uploading the bios into the Admin/Bios folder. Is there a good toot anywhere or would someone be so kind as to share some pointers.

I guess myactual question is as follows...

I can FTP into my box without a problem.
I can uplaod the bios without a problem (Shows erasing, flashing, verifying, etc...)
But when I reboot to the bank just flashed I get the 3 and out (Frag).

Any Ideas?

what banks and what switches did you flash your bios into? Did you flash the right bios for your xbox version?

is it a 1.6

just use the right bios for you box
make sure you switch to the right bios size
if you flashing a 256k make sure you switch to 256k bank
if you follow the manual you wouldnt get any fraging .

Well, I'm playing around with this and feeling a bit more comfortable. I was able to flash my Back Up with the 3.0.3 Bios from config live by placing the bios in my F folder and using the Bios Tools.

Now it would seem that the "Admin" folder that actually has the original Bios folder should ba an option when flashing with the "Bios Tools" on config live.

Flashing is still not working from that folder.

Bottom line, I can seem to get it to do what I want, just not the way it is supposed to be done. Still would like any input on getting the flashed to work via Ftp.

nartac & gixer...I have the correct bios for the 1.6b, and I'm fairly certain I'm flashing the correct size bios into the correct banks. This kind of leads me to what may be a very dumb question.

When i flash my 2.2pro, I have to flash 1 full meg at a time filling all banks with all my switches set to off except for the protection switch, can I flash a sigle 256k bios into the X3?? Do I flash with all switches set to off? Or to the bank I want to flash?

Sorry for these questions, it just seems to be a little different than what i'm used to.

FYI, each bank of X3 is 256k so you have 8 different banks that you can flash your 256k into and many different other combinations too (ie. 512k, 1mb, 2mb) but why would you use a bios from X2.2pro for X3? Not sure it will work since I have never done it myself but it's like buying a Farrari and put a corolla engine in it instead.

Ah, now I sort of understand your question. I suppose the 2.2pro bios is similar to 2.6. X2.6 actually requires 256k bios but it has to be doubled to make it into 512k size. As I recall you don't necessarily have to make a 1mb bios.bin to flash a 2.6 (or 2.2) but you can put say X2 bios in banks 1+2 and flashbios in banks 3+4 to make total of 1mb.

X3 bios is different. It's 1mb in size and you don't need to double it and it will require 1mb of space.

Hope that made sense.

Bottom line....Don't bother using X2 bios for X3 and there is no reason that you want to.

BTW, if you can ftp and make it simple, all you have to do is place your bios in a directory called "bios" (without the quotes). Ftp this into the c:\ partition of Xbox. Get on flashbios and flash your bios via harddrive. Flashbios will automatically search for contents in bios folder and all you need to do is choose the bios of your chosing. Simple

If you wish to do it by ftp flash, it's also simple. Get on X3 config live. Use ftp client on your PC to connect to your xbox (remember pw & username are "X3" without the quotes). Go to admin/bios banks/1024k banks/. Transfer your appropriate bios into bank 1+2+3+4 or bank 5+6+7+8.

Yep nartac, it's all making more and more sence as I play around with it and check your comments.

Your right though, the habits of the 2.2 are whats causing my "mental" blaocks, the X3 is much simpler to work with...once yourealize it's simple, LOL.
