Soooo I was flashing my Xbox 360 Benq drive. Had absolutely every error message possible but managed with the help of some previous threads to work through them. Now I was flashing my drive and after I erased the damn XBOX powered off (I'm using the xbox to power the drive)

Now I've turned the PC back on and the bios takes a few minutes detecting and doesn't see the drive anymore.

I did backup the original firmware when I clicked write during the process. Is there any way of getting that back on the drive so I can start the whole process again and be a bit better at using the valuable time I have whilst the xbox stays powered up?!

Or....is my drive knackered?

This is why you buy and use the approved hardware to do the job, your best bet is to send it to someone that knows what their doing and has the right hardware.

OK well firstly, thanks for your responses guys.

BUT, it was my decision to take that risk. I'd rather have taken the risk then ordered some hardware which could be out of date within a couple of months. I don't do this as a service for people so I felt the risk outweighed paying for proper equipment. Also the fact that the xbox I have is prehistoric and buying a replacement wouldn't be excessively expensive. I've done this several times before too and not had a problem as well. Whilst yes, I agree buying proper equipment would have ensured that this wouldn't have happened.

Now if my drive is knackered that's my fault - I can live with that.

My question was whether there was any way I could reload the firmware. Based on the responses so far - it sounds unlikely!

Also, I'm a Brit but live in Switzerland and getting hold of a screwdriver to open the xbox was a mountain to climb! (excuse the pun)

You'd think Toblerones would be cheaper here wouldn't you! They're about 3x the price!

I'm back in the UK in March so I might well take you up on that offer...

BUT... I see lots of people have mentioned flashing the original firmware back onto the drive via DOS. Anyone done this before? Any tutorials knocking around?

I wanna play Farcry 3 :'(

People rather not buy anything to do the job rite but will mess consoles up that will cost them more than the decent products to do a job properly. If no one wants to buy the products then send it to someone that won't charge as much as it cost to buy what's needed

I know. I'm very naughty.

I'm just always worried about spending money on them and then finding in a couple of months MS release an update and they're no longer able to do their job! Also as I've got a Benq I'd always thought this was pretty easy....up until today. I blame Microsoft.

I would the v2 has been out a while and has always been useful to me as I can flash back to stock then update and flash back so it's paid for itself as I don't have to send it off. The only problem I've ever had is the computer not working with the hardware as jungleflasher has always detected the drive every time without fail

Guys,

I really can't thank you all enough.

I managed, by following meads1970's advice, to get this working. I unplugged my drive several times whilst in windows and reconnected and kept pressing the intro / device id button on the mtk flash tab. Sorted!

I've also had help from wolfdal3 and a very kind message from rocket.man.

I applaud you all and should we cross in the future I'll very happily buy you a pint.

And not a dig, but had I 'bought the right tools' I'd not have met you lovely people. So watch me as I run into the distance and cause more self mischief :)

Guys - I'm back.

Randomly since flashing I have no sound. It could possibly be an issue with my scart adapter (I have a really thing LED Samsung TV and theres a cable that you have to plug in to get a scart connection) - any ideas? I thought I might have over tightened a screw when I put my xbox back together again so took it apart and tried with the casing off - still no sound! Very odd.
