I use hot glue to pin wires down (not solder points). Electrical tape will come up eventually as well. It's made to be wrapped around itself not just laid out flat on a piece of fiberglass. If you have a hot glue gun that gets hot enough, the glue will last for some time. When it comes time to remove it, a little isopropyl alcohol on it will make it come off VERY easy and leaves no residue behind.

Just my two cents and probably up for debate but ya....

Tapatalk misspelled it. Knot me.
Hence why I use Kapton tape. It's purpose made to stay stuck, not react to temperatures and doesn't leave any residue.

I use hot glue to tack things down after i have tested stuff....... Example the Demon Phat, i will dab a bit of hot glue to stop it from getting ripped off if someone decides to take it apart....... it has happened to me. one time i installed one, and the ribbon cable got stuck in the crack in my table, and ripped off the demon before i even got a chance to test it..... Then i had to do the alt install, which took like 3 hours, and a few burnt nand points, which led to trace repairs....... Not fun. long story short it all worked in the end, but if i never have to do it again, i will be happy, and the hot glue just tacks it to the board.

Kapton tape is great. Essential for both reworking and soldering. Never used hot glue but it looks messy, kapton tape is neat and professional.

As for accidentally ripping off chips, I think thorough preparation can save a lot of tears and frustration. I see so many threads where noobs are spending more time performing really drawn out fixes instead of finishing a ~ 1 hour install.
