JEWEL PROBLEM! pls help

ok i did the turpentine thing to remove the green paint on the jewel. i got off the paint but then realized that it left like a film of nasty dried up gunk from teh turpentine. i cant get it off. can anyone help? maybe ill just sand the top good and just paint it
