I just did the hardware / soldering part of my first DemoN install but when trying to read the orig NAND J-Runner and DemoN Toolbox crash. I'm sure there is something wrong on my part but I can't figure out what. I hope somebody can help.

This is what happens:
  1. I plug the PSU in my Xbox 360 power port
  2. the red light on the CR turns on and with a very tiny delay the blue led next to the miniUSB port of the DemoN as well
  3. I then start JR or DemoN Toolbox
  4. I plug in the USB cable to the miniUSB port (after JR boots, else the DemoN does not get detected), also sometimes windows thows me the "USB device not recognized error".
  5. In JR I click on DemoN toggle NAND (the blue led turns off now)
  6. Often now JR crashes (see images), sometimes I can still click read NAND and then JR crashes and even one time I actually managed to read the NAND twice and when comparing the NAND was fine.
  7. When use DemoN Toolbox usually it crashes when I click read NAND, sometimes it starts reading and then crashs (the crash screenshot is attached)
  8. After a crash the DemoN won't be detected again and I need to unplug the USB cable and start JR or Toolbox again.

The dirty looking residue around some of the soldering points is just flux from the core of my soldering wire, I also use flux seperately.

There is also a printscreen in my images that was taken when the DemoN was detected correctly and Windows wanted to look for drivers, after installing the drivers the "Device can not start" error popped up.

The pics of my soldering and screenshots can be found here:

So can anyone see what's wrong here? Thanks!

Your first port of call should be a continuity check between all QSB points and their NAND destination.

Next, check for neighboring points to ensure you don't have any shorts.

I had the same probs when using Demon toolbox on Windows Vista kept crashing.
I used J Runner to read and write the Demon and Xbox nands no probs at all onece Demon Toolbox had installed the usb drivers so try that

Unfortunately I currently only have access to an analog multimeter that must be at least 25 years old with a pot meter that seems very unreliable. I checked for shorts though and the meter went up every time to there are no shorts as far as I can see. After the weekend I have access to my own digital multimeter again and will check for the resistances between points D0 up D7 and other QSB points, they should be around 10k Ohms I have read? Also I will check the QSB points with the NAND pins using the continuity beeper.

I'll try to get hold of another PC but I don't think that's the problem tbh.

Another question: if I select the stock NAND the Xbox 360 should boot fine right? If there are no shorts that is. I also assume the CR3 will be turned off by the demon in that case?

Hmm, I just connected the DemoN to a Windows 7 laptop and Toolbox read out the NAND without a hitch. Then installed J-Runner and did 4 NAND dumps all of which went fine and are the same as the one dumped by Toolbox, also J-Runner shows NAND info (like dash etc). Soo all looks okay now! Probably was a computer / Windows XP thing after all?

Edit:
Stock NAND doesn't boot. Xbox turns on but no picture. I'll go fiddle around some more.

Edit2:
Just got Xell to boot from ECC image flashed to the DemoN (didn't want to overwrite the stock NAND) and got the CPU key. :)

For the record, it works GREAT now, really happy with my DemoN and also found the install very simple and straight forward (in hindsight), thread can be closed.

I think the problem was with what is displayed in the screenshot below, as the first time you connect the DemoN the drivers will be looked up by Windows and installed properly (after they have been installed by the toolbox installer), this went wrong at my first PC (Win XP) and I tried 2 more PC's after (one 7 and one XP) and on both it worked perfectly.
