With your Kinect sensor plugged into your console, run the USB update that corresponds to your console's FreeBOOT version.

For example, if your console is running FreeBOOT 14719, apply the official 14719 USB update.

well the kinect updates have always been told as harmless but reading your post now I am about to change my opinion on those kinect updates.

suppose that I am on a old dash version and my console has jtag/rgh running hacked kernel.
When I plug in the kinect and apply the update do I run the risk of blowing efuses and messing up the rgh/jtag?

by saying 14719 usb update do you mean the dashboard update that we download from xbox.com or is this update something else that corresponds to usb accessories.

he means the one you would download from xbox.com
just make sure you have the the newest dash on your jtag if you do not have the latest just google for the dash you are on

do not connect to live with your jtag
go to xbox.com download to your pc and put on a usb stick

Do I have to revert to stock firmware before doing this update if its only to update the kinect? (my dash is at 14719 and giving the update error on the kinect)

quick answer is no you don't have to for a kinect update, what is your dash launch version and what update are you trying to use...is your update folder on the root of your usb named $$SystemUpdate or $SystemUpdate

There is no need to revert your drive if using a JTAG/RGH console.

If you have DashLaunch installed and noupdater = true (default), rename the 14719 system update folder to $$ystemUpdate.
