Which hack is safer to do on the xbox as far as bricking or ruining the system which carries the greater risk?

Both are safe as long as you're good at soldering and can follow instructions to the letter. Bad soldering and dulled mind are dangerous to xbox.

Jtag has easier soldering points though, but if you are good at soldering this won't matter.

So as long as the soldering job is correct than there is no difference in the safety between the 2 hacks. I was going to have it professionally done by someone else as I've never soldered anything before.

Yes its the soldering that usually ruin rgh/jtag. As long as you have very clean solders, next steps are very easy. Ofcourse, you should always keep your original verified/no difference nanddump.bin.

So with the original nand back up i can reverse the hack with a simple flash even if the chip is still soldered to the board?

Why do you ask? There's not many JTAGable boxes out there anymore. You might be stuck doing a glitch if you are looking at modding you system. :)
