Hiya guys,
just wondering if i need to use a cross over cable or just a normal ethernet cable to connect my 360 to my pc to FTP files and use the 360's Media Center with my windows 7 Media Center.
Also i need to figure out on getting a manual static IP address working for both my 360 and pc.I've been searching the internet for days but keep getting conflicting reading on whether it's a cross over cable or just a normal ethernet cable that's needed.
Once i get this sorted out then i'll attempt to setup my wireless pc for ICS but all i need right now is getting my console setup and wired and configured to my pc.
Thanks fellas :)

For a guaranteed connection, use a crossover cable.

Most modern LAN cards have MDI/MDI-x auto-switching so it doesn't matter.

Setup ICS and leave your console to automatic configuration.

Thanks indeed, martin :) i right clicked my "wireless Network Connection" and clicked "properties"then on the "Sharing" tab i ticked the top box "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection".Now i have my Jtagged console plugged into my "LAN Card" on my PC,do i leave the settings to "Obtain an IP address automatically" and the same again on my console "network Settings" ?.Sorry for being a pain in the rear end lol but been trying to get this setup for days now without success :(

Yes - does your computer detect a network connection on the LAN port?
On my "Local Area Connection" with my console plugged in and powered on and i'm booted into the "NXE" dashboard. It keeps saying "Unidentified Network",then in my "NXE Network Settings" it's given me an IP address of 169.254.174.31/Sub mask of 255.255.255.0 but just 0.0.0.0 on the Gateway ?

The gateway needs to be the IP address of your pc, When you set up ICS on a windows 7 PC then the LAN port becomes 192.168.137.1 so that would be your static gateway, So to statically set up your ip config in the xbox would be as follows (example) Ip:192.168.137.5 Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.137.1

Ok - the problem is ICS needs to use 192.168.0.0 subnet. You're already using this.

Change your internet hub to 192.168.1.1 instead - hopefully everything you have is DHCP so once the new config is squirted out, all your devices should be on 192.168.1.0 too.

Once this is done, disable ICS and re-enable it. Your LAN connection should get a proper IP of 192.168.0.1.

I'm surprised that ICS didn't warn you of this when you enabled it.

no - ICS should do all this for you.

Again, no it shouldn't need to be changed AT ALL. ICS has DHCP and when it's configured correctly, anything connected with DHCP client enabled should get an address. I do all my LAN connections on consoles I RGH/JTAG via my laptop running ICS!!

Martin, where do i change the internet hub to 192.168.1.1,is that with my Modem/Router settings or on my PC LAN settings, please matey ?
It'll be your modem/router itself.

Your right martin, With ICS it sets it up automatically, You don't need to add an IP to the Xbox, But I was giving him an example. With XP with a crossover cable I had to set my xbox ip statically similar to my lan port and my xbox gateway to my pc lan port, And had to add the DNS servers from my ipconfig to get my xbox to connect to the internet. Not using ICS its the same principle.

Yep, sure - if you don't want internet and purely want an IP to IP connection, you could do this:

(turn ICS off)
PC LAN:
IP: 192.168.99.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: (none)

Xbox:
IP: 192.168.99.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: (none)

You shouldn't need DNS setup if you're just using the IP by itself. Gateway is only used for IPs outside of the defined subnet.

I still can't share my internet connection from my wireless PC to my Jtagged 360,i've tried both methods of ICS and bridging the connection but can't get it to work what so ever.
When i plug in my xbox 360 wireless adapter though i can connect to my wireless modem/router on my home network no problem at all AND i can connect to my PC via wireless from the NXE dashboard.
The console network settings are set to automatic and my modem/router assigns an IP address and everything to my console.
Just wondering now if i'll be able to FTP files from my PC over to the console via wireless method ?

Try reading one this tutorial to set up and configure ICS, but skip the XBL test part because it will fail if your JTAG is configured correctly.

If you set ICS up correctly, you will be able to FTP to/from your console and have internet access on your console (for FSD covers and such).

Lol you've had a wireless adaptor the whole time??

Of course you can - it's a network connection and works exactly the same. I do this with my slim RGH.

Did you try changing your subnet to 192.168.1.0?

Also, you said you tried both methods? If you manually changed the addresses as I suggested, you should have been able to FTP to the console's IP from the computer. If you couldn't, it's a cable issue.
