My friend gave me a RROD xbox the other day and decided to play around with it.

This was a 2006 20gig Arcade version Xbox with firmware dashboard 2.0.7371.0

I ended up repairing it and flashing it today. I apologize for some noobish questions and I understand I can google it but I've done so much googling today to fix and flash the xbox, I just needed a few quick answers

I acquired some ISOs from my roommates games and burned them to a disc using imgburn and abgx360

Some of the games require higher firmwares and update to run.

- Is this okay to do? Does the Xbox need a certain firmware to run the burned games? I know this is important for ps3.

- I followed this guide to burn the isos to a dvd. Is there a need to change the process depending on the game?

- If the iso/dvd file from abgx360 is over the DL capacity of the DVD I read you select the "Truncate" option in the Imgbrn program. Is this correct? What if the game is way over 8.5gb? Is there a way to burn a 2 disc iso?

Thanks for all the answers in advance and I am sorry for the laziness.

Alright after some digging, I found some answers but still am uncertain.

XBG3 games can only be read by certain drive/firmware combinations.
What was the first game to be on the new XBG3 format?

Some isos seem to be able to be truncated and others need to be written with the ihas xtreme burner firmware.
Is there a way to tell the difference?

Currently I burned a copy of GoW which worked fine in my flashed Hitachi but then tried Madden 13 Fifa 13 and Dishonored and each time received a message of " an update is required to run this game" with a red box and then return back to the dashboard.
Does this mean its burned/trunacted incorrectly or that I need to update my dashboard?

I am also a little confused with which firmware I am running on my Hitachi drive. I'm asumming it's v1.4? No 3.0 has been released yet but I'm assuming it would be worth it to upgrade?

I just need clarification to see if I should go out and buy a Lite-on ihas burner. I have no intentions of playing online or anything since I don't even have a xbox live account. I just want to be able to play some new single players games and co op or compete with my roommates. Thanks!

Well Forza 4 was the first game to b Xgd3. You need to buy an IHAS 124 b drive. Theres no way around it. Burning these XGD3 games without an IHAS drive only burns like 99.7% or 97% or something like that. It will say its complete but truncated burns to not burn the entire game to the disc because the computer is tricked into believing that there isnt enough space on the disc. Since lt 3.0 isnt out yet for the hitachi drives, you may be stuck playing the waiting game before you are able to play these new games without error.

Thanks for the response! c4eva mentions on his website that LT 2.0 "This version adds support for XGD3 backups, and includes the LT-MAX feature which supports full XGD3 ISOs burned on regular DVD+R DL media with iXtreme Burner MAX"

So I can run XGD3 backups with the IHAS 124B burned games?

The dashboard on the Xbox that I run has no interference with the Hitachi firmware if I'm not playing online/xbox live correct?

I also don't really understand the interaction between the IXtreme LT firmware in the Hitachi and drive and what Jungleflasher is. Do they compliment eachother? Are they two options to flash your DVD drive?

Thanks again!

JungleFlasher is the flashing utility used to flash LT+ to the Xbox 360 DVD drive. LT+ 2.0 is the current CFW for Hitachi's. What dashdoard are you on? 15774 is the latest, most new games will require 14719 minimum to play. This may be the reason for the update request. Truncated burns are no longer supported and only cause playback issues.

My dash is 2.0.7371.0.

Someone in a forum mentioned that you should not update your dash with a flashed dvd firmware as it will cause an error message. I'm guessing I need to flash back to stock, update, then flash back to LT 2.0. Is this correct?

Also with the hitachi 78, the only way I've found to play the most current games is use the IHAS 124B burner with the flashed firmware. This will work with Lt 2.0? Thanks!

You should always flash to stock before an Xbox live update just to be safe.
Yes your Ihas burner will work with 2.0 and above. Make sure to check your games with kprobe2 though if your going online.
