I was reading through this thing for hours and saw nothing very helpful with comparisons. I just got an Xbox for my b-day (Dec 4th), and don't know what chip to install in it. I'm currently torn between the Xecuter 3, and the SmartXX 2. Which is better? I keep hearing of video and dvd eject problems with the X3 and don't want to have to deal with that. Also, I read a little info on the ability to play other console games on the Xbox, how is that done? I want to be able to play other console's games on my Xbox if thats at all possible (which would make sense using emulators threw linux (linux noob by the way)). Also, I was wondering if its possible to back up Xbox games solely from a PC, not requiring a FTP upload FROM the Xbox, etc., etc. Just direct copy. I keep hearing about DVD Copy Wizard Pro or whatever. So please, anyone, fill the dumb kid in. :? Thanks.

X3 is the best chip out there, and I'm not just saying that becuase I have one. I did my research before buying a chip too, and found the X3 was the best. For many reasons some of the few are the Control Panel coming out soon, and Xecuter's version of The Xtender, which will allow users to use more then one harddrive. Also the X3 BIOS are second to none. X3 Config Live to reason enough to buy the chip. The way that games are played on the xbox are through Emulators, and ROMS that you can download. The only systems that cant be emulated are PS2, Dreamcast, and Gamecube. Unfortunatly there is no way to direct copy games to the PC, mainly because the standard PC drive can't read the Xbox disc.

The support that you will get here for the xecuter is also way better than any other chip!! Most people are very willing to help you as long as you have done some research of your own!! Everyone will tell you to use that darn search if you have asked an inapproriate question that has already been answered, but that is given!!

Whats the reason that ps2 games, mainly, can't be played on Xbox? I know of widows emulators that allow you to play them, I could only assume that Linux has them, and they probably run better too. I do know that the Xbox only has 64 megs ram, but I think that would be enough, and worst comes to worse, ram upgrade. Other than that though, I personally couldn't see anything stopping an Xbox-Linux machine from playing discs from other platforms, but I also know next to nothing about this.

basically the ps2 games use a completely different coding and to emulate it you need a powerful processor of around 2ghz or more

the xbox is is only 733/740mhz and has only 64mb of ram so it is nowhere near powerful enough

Mitpat is correct... Basically what you are trying to do with an emulator is simulate the hardware of the other machine with software... When you have to do this, there is a huge difference in readability speed!!! In plain terms the playstation hardware reads the games at a normal rate and if you have to use software to try and do what hardware is supposed to do, then you are going to have problems with slow/unplayable games.

Definitly true halomaster. I'm loving my xbox so far, and I don't even have it modded yet. Does anyone here know of a good place with the X3 chip for a cheap price. Hopefully bundled with the switch that goes underneath, thats not listed in foreign currency? Cheapest I'm finding is like 60 for the chip alone, and they dont really offer anything if you wanna buy the pro switch with it. By the way, I have a 1.6b, so it has to be a site that also offers the 3.0.3 flashbios upgrade, and the lpc rebuild is now always with it. (i'm happy for myself, I did do SOME research). Also, I havent done any searching on this, so forgive me for a dumb question, but can someone also give me a good link to where I might find a good bios flash for it, as well as a good dashboard? Thanks all, youve been a huge help.

I'd also suggest using www.xbox-scene.com to compare dashboards (look under software). I've used a few myself - avalaunch and evox are probably the easiest to work with and avalaunch has a few more features, and is prettier IMHO. I use thc lite myself until teamuix comes out with their newest work in progress.

Also, I'd reccomend searching for 'xbins' if you're looking for where to get the bios or other software.

As for where to buy the X3, the official sellers are listed in the upper left hand corner of this site. Those are the most reputable dealers, and give you a few options on where to buy. I haven't personally seen any bundles, and the x3 should run about $60, but you definitely get what you pay for, especially in this situation :)

I just bought an X3 from modchip.ca (paid thru .us for US currency), $62.95 and had it FedEx'd - should get it Mon or Tues. My buddy has bought 2 of the xecutor 2.6's and they have worked well. Not sure which Bios he pulled down. Modchip.ca is a reputable dealer if you're nervous about buying a chip - they have my rec.

BenQ Drive flashing issues

Ok i have my xbox connect to my computer, at first i was having problems detecting my drive and then i just switch around the sata cables and i got it detected then now (Jungle flasher 1.75b and trying to flash to LT 1.2 Firmware) when i hit BenQ Unlock i get Vendor Intro Failed and i was told that i just need to click on Intro/Device ID but to power cycle the drive (currently i am using the xbox to power the drive) it is hard to disconnect the drive within one second and back on. I know a CK3 would probably do it and well do i really need one to get this to work or is there an easier way to power cycle the drive. Please anyone tell what i can do as i have a few backups i would love to try thanks for reading.

Re: BenQ Drive flashing issues

first, what type of drive do you have?
you may have a lite-on, make sure

what version of firmware do you have?

if you have ixtreme LT (any revision) or stock, turn on your xbox eject the drive and close the drive, then power it off and power on again (just to make sure the drive is fully closed)
then hit benq unlock and flash away

if you have any other version of ixtreme on there, eject your drive, then pull the power cable out the back of the dvd drive, manually close it half way, then push the power plug back in.

press intro/device id, then flash away

Re: BenQ Drive flashing issues

I believe its a BenQ drive because it says BenQ/Phillips on the drive case and model number is VAD6038 but its stock and never been flashed. To power cycle the drive I try to disconnect the power from the drive then back in as fast as i can but thats a lil difficult and then i try to unplug and then plug in but i guess i dont hit the power button quick enough i dont know. I am using the lastest Jungle Flasher 1.75b and trying to flash it with the lastest BenQ firmware iXtreme LT v1.2. Thanks for reading and i will try what you said Joesinger47.

Re: BenQ Drive flashing issues

there is no power cycling for flashing a stock drive

make sure you are using the correct port (you should see drive properties PBDS 6038 etc)
in other words, JF should see your drive

then just press benq unlock

then you will be able to read and flash the drive

if more problems occur, it is likely that your computer is incompatible with the flashing process

Re: BenQ Drive flashing issues

Ok my computer detects everything you just said but when i hit BenQ Unlock it says sending magic keys and then done followed by Vendor Intro failed so yeah is it that my PC is not compatible? and could i buy a Sata card to fix it?
