Just got three red lights, but might be able to fix it...

Hey all.
About five minutes ago I had just taken out the fan from my 360, and when I put it back in and powered on my box I got the dreaded three red lights. BUT, I'm guessing since I was just fiddling with the fan, that the problem might lie somewhere in that general area.

Any suggestions? As for stuff I have that could possibly fix it, I have a cold heat soldering iron and that's about it :roll: .

And another bit of possibly helpful information; I started it up without the fan plugged in, which I now know probably isn't a good idea...

Which lights are blinking? Check this guide to see if it explains what your error is.

It's the general hardware failure, sections 1, 3, and 4. I'm going to try a couple of the things that they suggest on there, hopefully that solves it...

Alright, I deciphered the error code from the LEDs, and I got 0001, which they say is power supply problem.

Plug it directly into the wall, see what happens if you take it off the ground.

Nope, nothing. Gahhhhh. I think I'm going to try a friend's cord, then I'll buy a heat gun and try that. :?

Does anyone have any idea what turning on the xbox 360 without the fan plugged in could've done to it? It may have also been caused by plugging in a different fan into the port? Any ideas at all?

I have never tried running without the fan plugged in but i dont see how it would have any effect on your current situation. It would either give an error (if the SMC looks for it and sees its not there) or it would run until it overheated. I dont know much about the SMC, so that was just a stab in the dark.

Hmmm...yeah it doesn't make sense to me. Maybe it was just dumb luck that it happened right after i did that. I just bought a heat gun so as soon as I get a T8 screwdriver I'm gonna try the heat gun method. Thanks for the help though .
