Well, I just installed a 2.6CE on a friends v1.0 (yes there are still those out there!)
It's only my fourth chipping, 2 have been 1.6s. And I'm no expert at soldering, but if you take your time and follow instructions, I haven't found there to be a problem. I actually prefer having to do the rebuild board instead of having to suck/braid the solder out of the 1.0s.
All that aside, it went in relatively painlessly and worked first shot.
I've been spoiled by the built in FTP of the X3.
About 4 hours of trying to find media that would boot in the Thompson Drive of the 1.0 box and getting lucky on one try, I finally got a dash FTPd!
As far as I'm concerned, the X3 is worth the extra bucks JUST for that reason if none other. Regardless, all is ticketyboo and life is good. Xecuter rox yet another box
