LOL....just "borrow" :)
Most of my buddies have the phat ones which i flashed for them.
1. Could i replace the drive with a phat Xbox?
2. It seems the thing under the disc is not causing the disc to spin, which means to me the laser does not know what to read off the disc, make sense?

things to try With the top and bottom DVD Drive cover removed, and the DVD tray in the closed position, move the laser forward and then backwards to see if the worm motor is moving freely. If the lasers moves back and forth smoothly, then you can assume that the worm motor is working properly. Next to test the disc spindle motor, this is the motor that spins the disc when the drive is engaged and reading your DVD's. you will find the spindle motor in front of the laser and manually spin the motor using your finger. If the motor is spinning smoothly then you can assume that the spindle motor is operating properly

Tried it now.
The spindle motor spins nicely with my finger when i give it a squizz. However, the Laser moves forward and back (not necessarily smoothly, but rather stiffly)......??

Could the drive just have been faulty out of the box? When i unsealed the xbox, i updated dash and flashed. Never tested an original, assumed would be fine as its brand new.

Thank you for your patience, expertise and assistance!

you could try a different worm motor in your drive but i doubt it would be that since its brand new, when you plugged the power cable into the drive by any chance that you plugged it in upside down,i still think its your laser. if your are going to replace the laser get it from www.bgamods.co.uk

Okay update here. It seems that my replacement pcb was also dead! Got a new 0225 replacement pcb, flashed it to my orig dummy bin and LT+3.0 and works perfect orig and backup.....then after a few hours gave me Play DVD message. But from what i researched the 0225's tend to do this? Read somewhere that if u start the console with a game inside, it fixes the play dvd error. Tried it and bang it works again.
Strange. But does anyone know why this happens specifically on the 0225 pcb and whther this fix is permanent. Seems to be working for a day perfectly.
