Hi,

I have two spare Liteon PCB's from when I changed out for TX Replacement boards that are just sitting here so I was going to try and kamikaze hack them.

I seen a lot of people using a soldering iron instead of a drill and I was just wondering what temperture I should have it at for making the small hole?

Thanks

I haven't personally used a soldering iron. I use a template and the hand drill that came with it, it's worked 100% every time.

Soldering iron works great for me. Never missed one with that either.
I like this method because you can't slip and go too deep. It's very controlled but might take a bit longer.
Max temp but you need a very very fine tip. I sharpened mine!
Good luck!

It's a good way to mess up a soldering iron. OP - remember our convo about Soldering iron tips lasting? This is a good way to shorten the life.

I take a pic of the chip with a USB Microscope. I then open it in a paint pic and using the pin layouts, work out where the point to drill/cut is.

I then find the point on the chip (relative to the print on it) and use a box-cutter knife blade tip to twist into the point I've marked.

LOL yes. But I paid maybe 50p for that removable tip and kamikaze is the only thing it gets used for.
And it will last for many more kamikazes, no doubt about that.
I stand by the soldering iron method! ;)

You're obviously unaware the OP has just paid out for a new iron and just has the one tip.

Thanks for all the replies.

I managed to get one of my original slim PCB's ready to go so I will look into the equipment and report back success/fail.

Ive personally done about 20 unlocks with a .8mm drill bit just above the printed K on the chip, only having 1 POT_OUT to repair. Only takes about 25sec to do.

I DO NOT recommend doing it this way as it is in no way accurate, but i have been lucky. What I'm trying to say is that your better off using a drill bit as to not overheat the chip, and it only takes two seconds to mark the chip for the spot to drill.

Considering the print changes from chip to chip, you have been more than lucky.

Can you pick me 6 numbers from 1 to 49 please?

I use the template as well and have not encountered any problem.
